I keep seeing that SONY is "opening to other platforms" like XBOX and PC.

This reminds me a lot to that era when SEGA stopped doing consoles and became solely Developer/Publisher.

Do you think SONY is soon to ditch the SONY PlayStation and focus solely in developing games for other platforms?
What do you think!? 👀

They're making cheap 100GB discs which means most physical games are playable offline.

1st party output is still shit compared to Nintendo, but I don't think they'll release their games day 1 on PC/Xbox/Switch 2.

Hardware has always been a losing game for them as they sell at a loss, so I can see them moving away from that model in 2-3 generations.

I can't pretend to be an expert on the gaming business but my take is that consoles have become less unique over time. The days where different consoles had different strengths and weaknesses which made some games more suitable to one platform over another are gone. Compare the RPGs available on the PS1 to the N64 because of the amount of data available on disks compared to cartridges or how Gunstar Heroes is on the Mega Drive because the SNES CPU couldn't multiply two 16 bit values.

These days game consoles are pretty much locked down PCs. Not a bad thing if you want the convenience of turning the thing on and playing but they're not what they used to be. Sony knows it and have accepted they need to move forward rather than fighting the change by locking users to their system like they did with Fortnight accounts. Nintendo can do their own thing because they own Mario, Zelda Animal Crossing, Super Smash Bros. and so on.

Nintendo is the last platform holder (and gaming company in general) that is doing it right. It is the last bastion of normal gaming.
Sony is making one mistake after another. They will either get their heads together and fix this, or they will stop being a platform holder in the next 10 years.

I doubt Sony will give up on hardware for as long as the platform is profitable, frankly it's MS I could see making tranditional consoles and doing stuff like the MSI handheld instead.

Remember that services, accessories, etc. are still areas to generate revenue from.

Sony making games for third parties is likely just about increasing revenue for each title.

It's also not new, back in the 90s Sega ported several games to PC and even the Sony owned Psygnosis released Wipeout to other platforms, including PC and Saturn.
