Okay, I bought my Wii in very early June 2007 (June 2nd). I've heard Wiis released around June have D2C modchips, which are unmoddable for now (although I also hear there's been some progress on that).

I checked that site that says what chipset your Wii might have, and I put in the serial and it says it's most probably a D2B, but I don't want to buy a modchip just to find out I wasted money. :\

The Best Buy I bought my Wii at actually had them in their stock for a week, so it would be May when they still had it in the store, and I bet those my Wii was manufactured in early May...

So, does anyone think my Wii could have a D2C chip?

If the chips were put inside Wiis in late June I don't have much to worry about, so I just need to know.
I'd buy a tri-wing screwdriver and find out, but I'm getting one as a bundle with the Wiikey I'm going to buy, so I can't...

yea just open it

maybe you have 3 cut legs on your d2b chip, then it will be pretty hard to install a chip.

That's not really a big issue, since I know someone who can chip Wiis with cut legs.

I think I may ask a friend of mine who has those screwdrivers to open it for me.
I really need to know before I buy a modchip, since I'm right at the borderline between having a D2B and D2C chip so it's very uncertain.

QUOTEwhere exactly is the serial number on the Wii?

On the bottom of the Wii. Mine started with LU5148, and looking at these numbers, I might be lucky enough to have a D2B chipset without cut legs:

GC2R - D2B

(Incompatible with first generation mod chips)

* LU 1047XXXXX
* LU 10510XXXX
* LU 1054XXXXX
* LU 1720XXXXX

* LU 3070XXXXX
* LU 3072XXXXX
* LU 3074XXXXX
* LU 3099XXXXX
* LU 3127XXXXX
* LU 3129XXXXX
* LU 3142XXXXX

* LU 50853XXXX
* LU 5089XXXXX
* LU 5092XXXXX
* LU 5094XXXXX
* LU 5095XXXXX
* LU 5131XXXXX
* LU 51519XXXX

GC2 - D2B

(New Wii with the chip's legs missing)

* LU 31588XXXX
* LU 5154XXXXX
* LU 5157XXXXX
* LU 5161XXXXX
* LU 5164XXXXX

Mine is between LU 5131 and LU 51519, so maybe I don't have anything to worry about...

Also, looking here, I can see that I'm right at the edge between having a Wii with cut legs (right before they started making them! Damn, I'm lucky). However, it seems that I most likely don't have a D2C chipset in my Wii. I still won't know for sure until I open it up, but I'm fairly sure I have a D2B chipset now after looking through these things.
