Hardware Is my Wii a "newer" drive?

I have a
Red Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary Wii.
Is the drive of this Wii a D3-2?

Yep, get onto External HDD loading.

It will only truly be a problem if you want to load backup gamecube
games because those can't be loaded from a HDD loader except
if using the WODE but that would mean having to buy an additional
piece of equipment.

I can confirm that it is with the new chip set.

I modded my friends Wii, and it was of the same type. It would refuse to load
any game on a dvd-r.

They didn't do it to temporatily kill hard modding.
They originally done it to completely destroy hard modding. What they failed to do was secure their software and so it made no bloody difference anyway, lol

Basically, they wasted money, it had no effect. Although I suppose it did create a new market for older drives, lol.

Why do they bother? The amount of money they must waste trying to fix hacked consoles and then we ALWAYS end up finding a new way to hack em, so just why waste the money?

Although GC USB Loading s being worked as we speak from what Ive read.
