I had a similar problem with the 3in1 Expansion Pack Tool (I have it set to start from the middle button). It worked for a while, but then it stopped working. When I hit the middle button, the loading bar would appear, but not go anywhere. Launching it from the game menu worked though.

After a bit of random trial and error, I deleted _DS_MENU.DAT and _DS_MENU.SYS and copied _DS_MENU.DAT to the card again (same version), and that fixed it. Just deleting _DS_MENU.SYS didn't work, I had to delete both files.

Moonshell works fine for me in 1.10. Heh, to tell the truth, that's the first time I've tried to load it since 1.06. It's an unused feature in my card, but it works.

I think the problems most people have with updating the R4 comes from the fact that they don't delete _DS_MENU.SYS when they update. That will cause all sorts of weird stuff to happen.

As for the cheats.....don't use 'em, don't know if they work or not.

What's with that file anyway? Unneeded since some versions ago? I still have it on mine, no problems encountered so far (though I sticked with 1.08 because of the cheat issues).

It's a file that the R4 creates the first time a new loader is installed and booted, as long as the old one was deleted before updating. It's 4megs.....no clue what it's for.

It's the uncompressed version of _DS_MENU.DAT I think. On first load it takes _DS_MENU.DAT and creates _DS_MENU.SYS from it. If _DS_MENU.DAT is missing though then it won't accept the card so both files have to be there for it to work.

you guys need to test your R4s more throughly.

1.08 is probably the best version, it has the least bugs but some games required 1.10 to work so you're stuck using 1.10.

1.09 jumbles some game titles such as theme park
1.10 is required to play zelda:ph and sim city. moonshell is somewhat broken, it will not reset using the start button nor using the reset.mse(unless you get the r4 patched reset.mse) also moonshell wont start up if you have your R4 soft reset on. also zelda: ph and possibly sim city disables soft reset. Cheat function is broken too.

Ok. I won't be able to speak for 1.08 or 1.09 but I do have 1.10 loaded on my R4 right now...

I just checked moonshell with this. I run 1.71 on my unit with the modified reset.mse file. Moonshell started up just fine with either the soft reset on or off. The start button soft reset never worked right for me on any firmware version so I just opted to run a newer version with the modified file.

On the other hand I can confirm that Zelda: Phantom Hourglass indeed does not do a soft reset. I never personally used that function though so up until now I did not realize this was an issue but it is also a posted issue on the r4 forums as well. Simcity DS was also reported as having this issue however I cannot confirm right this minute since it isn't on my R4. It was downloaded, hated it, and deleted from my R4 but I still have the zip package.

Cheat functionality is reported to be broken for some games and certain types of cheats. I don't use cheats so it didn't really bug me but I've read that the in-game brightness adjustment cheat doesn't work is one big one that is reported to be broken.

That only happens when u update the loader without deleting the .SYS file if you've already updated without first deleting the .SYS file then just delete that and the _DS_MENU.DAT and replace the _DS_MENU.DAT with the new one and that will fix everything including the cheats not working
