after i accidentally restarted my console and successfully used rcm to get it back in the cfw state my switch goes through both splash screens for sept and atmosphere and then it just boots into the stock firmware I've reinstalled the atmosphere and sept folders but it hasn't seem to change anything
any help would be appreciated thanks! -,-

How are you identifying stock firmware?

Have you looked at system information, does it say (AMS) next to the firmware number? (AMS = Atmosphere)

If no - check if you also updated fusee-primary (https://github.com/Atmosphere-NX/Atmosphere/releases)

If yes - check if you have updated sweet patches (https://gbatemp.net/threads/i-heard-that-you-guys-need-some-sweet-patches-for-atmosphere.521164/)

Restarting my console is something I do a few times every week, thats not something that should require you to do anything (other than to push the payload in rcm again).

Dumb folks solution: Hold R while opening Album.

Ok, now the most likely cause is you not reading.

Before you do anything, just try pressing and holding R while entering the Album. Behavior has changed there.

Sweet patches is only something to look into, if your installed games wont start. If its just that you couldnt get HBL to launch, its hold R while entering Album, or while launching any installed game (preferred, because you are getting full ram access for HBL that way).

HBL = Homebrew launcher.

well i got the sweetpatches installed but my games still don't work also weirdly themes don't either
Games just say [Unable to start software]

Then the problem is you. ;) I'm not wading through supporting someone who cant identify what they are launching, posting in the wrong forum, posting about piracy support, lying about "this happened after reboot", being unable to maybe properly unpack and copy over a zip file to an SD card, possibly owning a fake SD card, possibly having formated their SDcard... - again in the wrong forum, any further.

Try Kosmos (https://gbatemp.net/threads/kosmos-a-hekate-cfw-package.506280/).

Its not that, its you - but that way you can give it another try and blame it on something else.

We know how stuff works here, we dont know where you fail, I'm over giving support in those matters.

Next time its get out of this forum - supporting your piracy needs is not a software project, again.

Last ditch effort. If you've moved installed games from one sd card to another, or from the PC back to a freshly formated sdcard, use the fix bit on Nintendo folder function in hekate. Havent had to do this myself, dont know the error profile, that moving installed content onto (another) sdcard and not doing that causes - but thats apparently a thing as well.

I'm through playing mystical glass ball reader here.

Games just say [Unable to start software]

Using album to start what I assume is RetroArch is NOT supported, use a donor game (like pokemon quest as an example - it's free.) Hold "R" while launching any game you have installed will launch HBL with full RAM access. then launch RetroArch, then your game.

Edit: Themes made for 7.0.1 will not work properly on 8.0.x btw.

Wrong on the first part, its supported, it doesnt give full ram access which will make PPSSPP and N64 games in retroarch crash (those need full ram support - then "(donor) installed switch game +R" is needed).

If "games dont work" indeed was shorthand for "an emulated game of the PSP or N64 variaty in the emulator called retroarch" then I'm double over it.

Because - can you folks begging for support of all the "i dont know silt - I dont read" variety at least spell out, what you are doing?

In case your installed Nintendo Switch games arent launching, my best guess above should be as close as we can get in regards to - we don't know what the hell you are doing, this isn't supposed to happen.

Also - did I mention that this is not a general support forum? And some of us have no interest in supporting piracy needs at all? And if we still tell you how you are getting it to work - and then pirated game doesnt work - then we like - I dont care.

Also nice try tackin on the theme support question as well.

Btw - we dont know what the hell you were doing. Because a reboot alone causes none of what supposedly have dealt with. (You had to reinstall atmosphere after a reboot? We dont.)

edit: Btw: This is not like tech support would be talking to you. Which must mean, that people in here arent just part of a service you use - show some effort first. Read stuff beforehand. Single out issues. Give precise error descriptions. Say if you are on current versions. Say on which firmware you are. Some of us are maybe willing to help you for one or two posts but not a 15 post conversation streak of coaxing those tidbits out of your mind in a tet a tet.

And as usual - please - try to find the correct forum first. People see "software project" and think - its them and their "software issue". In general, its not. Its just hard to separate specific software help requests from general ones, and so we even do that some time. But in general we are not all out there to help you understand what you are doing after a "certainly not just reboot".

yeah i'm sorry, I'm new to modding my friend installed cfw on it before he sold it to me I've had to learn a lot in like a week i haven't found any other people with this problem.
I wish i could've provided some more information I'm just trying my best to fix it i know this isn't a site for tech support I just wanted to find anyone who had the same problem or find a solution. honestly sorry i don't mean to abuse the site i've been helped by threads here before, and i want to pay it forward
yeah i know this form post and my comments make me sound like a
bastard that's not my intention
I've answered all the questions I can with the amount of knowledge i have I'm not trying to put a mediocre amount of effort
p.s i asked my friend and he pirated almost all the games i guess i just have to stick to cartridges now oh well

Its never the individual. Its just in aggregate, that this becomes an issue - and even then some side with "hey, lets always help everyone out the best that we can". Its just that when you wade through that for 1000s of times, and I kid you not - not in this scene, but in aggregate, that you start to look at this differently. So this is literally one of the forums, where people come together to read up on information first hand. If in here the "Hey guys..!" threads get overhand, it becomes an issue, where you are literally trying to ignore help requests, just to get to the information. Its different usage profiles at this point.

I chose to make this a public discussion piece a few months ago - and the first feedback I've gotten is "you cant change it, give up, simply ignore it..." and all in all - in mass those voices were right, you will always have the folks who see this as their personal support resource, and just have a quick question for all the guys around.

In the end, we all start to ignore it. Even I'm getting better at it. ;) But this then culminates, in having mostly people respond that maybe are new to this as well, and dont understand concepts in full, and at that point you have wrong information spreading, so - then we are asking ourselves the question, are we giving up, are we reacting now...

So its not an easy situation. And its never the individual. Hey - If youd know me in person, Id probably try more to help you out. But it just doesnt scale correctly.

I sometimes compare it to reading a newspaper and having every fifth article at times being "Hey friend, can you help a bro out?". Or getting together with your pals at a model cars club (I never did, btw. ;) ), and having Joe Shmoe walking in from the streets, trying to probe you on what they should buy for their kid. And that five times a day. So there has to be some sort of response. And if it hit you, I feel for you. :)

The entry level into all of this isnt so high, that its unsurmountable. You'll get it.

Also believe us, those of us who grew up with "computers" in the nineties banged our head against issues constantly, for days. Also with only the internet as a resource to help us in some situations. And then we solved it. Eventually. With a little help, sometimes, sure. But the I need a quick service attitude was far less common, than it is nowadays. So culture changed a little as well, and thats what some of us (me) are really grappling with. :)

On the other hand, the scenes became much more approachable for most people - so thats something positive as well.
