Okay so I just went to the downloads section for homebrew and apps and... THERES A MILLION FILES LOL

I want the best of everything; PDF viewer, Internet browser (didn't know which one to get), ebook reader, moonshell plugins that work (because I tried one for avi videos and got an error message), and anything else you guys can think of =]

I'm looking at these stickies but I don't know how updated the threads are

If you look at the post dates/edit times, you should see how updated the threads are.

There is no "Best of everything" because everyone has they're own opinions. Internet - i use DSO Moonshell Plugins - not that many.. for the others i don't use any of that

MY personal favs DS Homebrew, but as GenesisX says it's all opionions.

About the error you get with Moonshell, let us know what they were and we'll try to fix them. (you do know that you have to recode the .avi files to a set size and FPS?)

No I wasn't aware of that but If I'm doing that I may as well just convert them lol

But that isn't the issue because I try to load up the NDS file for the avi player and get an error

You need to move the plugins into the 'extlink' folder of Moonshell2, then select the converted .avi file from the file browser.

Most homebrew apps that do things like read pdf's arn't good but there are still a good number of killer apps for the ds like the TI-83 calculator, there are two great dictionary programs, the official browser is great.
