So basically I hacked my switch back in november 2018 (approx) but I haven't used it since then. I'm currently on 4.1.0 and atmosphere 0.8.4
I use the hekate payload to get to CFW via RCM. Is there something I should update or maybe a new hack that doesn't depend on my PC to inject the payload? Basically, has something changed on the scene?

Since you're still on 4.1.0, you could use PegaScape to access Hekate and boot CFW rather than pushing a payload via PC. You can then create an EmuMMC to use with Atmosphere, and update that EmuMMC to the latest Switch version to play the latest games. Some people on 4.1.0 use two separate EmuMMCs, one that they try to keep as "stock" as possible, and the other one they use for all their NSPs and other CFW purposes.

It's not recommended to upgrade your sysnand, as you'll lose access to PegaScape and at that point your only option is using payload dongles.

not updating sysnand means no online which is not ideal if your not banned already
if you are banned then i agree with your suggestion
best to have sys for shop/online and emunand for homebrew/nsp s both on latest imo
if you don’t like dongles just get a mod chip and turn off auto rcm for good

As I explained in my post, with 4.1.0 he's able to boot EmuNAND without sending a payload using a payload dongle or a PC. He's in one of the best case scenarios, there's no need to ruin it by upgrading. He can use a second "clean" EmuNAND for online. Yes I know that's not 100% clean and not 100% ban-proof, but so far we don't have evidence of anyone being banned for using a "stock" EmuNAND.

True. never thought of doing anything online in an emunand but it makes sense.
Still reliant on Pega servers though, I mean you're tethered in sense of needing online to run nereba or caffeine, still better to fit a trinket and be completely independent of anything aka cold boot.
