So I've got an iPod Touch 2g. It has firmware 3.1.3 and the Spirit jailbreak.

I would like to upgrade to iOS 4.1.

Can anyone explain how to do this, without losing ANY of my apps I downloaded through [Redacted].

Telling me to redownload them doesn't count, I haven't got 6gb of net to waste.

I think as long as you have your computer authorized and have all your apps, cracked or otherwise, in your iTunes library, you can just sync all these apps back over, with their save data, to your 4.1 iPod Touch 2G after installing appsync on it. Also, if you don't have the MC model iPod Touch 2G, you might as well skip on to 4.2.1 instead of 4.1.

Oh, yes I do have the mc model.

I'm going to 4.1, as it is easier to jailbreak. So theres no way to keep without copying everything in some way?

And when I try to sync cracked apps, I get the "This will delete XX no, of apps including XXXXXX"

And what is appsync?

If you do an upgrade, it is probable that your apps will remain on your device and just won't be able to be used until you install appsync. I believe that was what happened to me when I did an update from 4.0 to 4.1 on my iPod Touch 2G MC model. However, I can't say for sure what will happen to your apps going from 3.1.3 to 4.1. I also recommend restores over updates in order to eliminate variables and potential issues.

And what is appsync?
You need appsync in order to use cracked apps. If you add http://cydia.hackulo.us/ to your list of sources in Cydia, you can download and install appsync for whatever firmware your device is currently on. Without it, cracked apps will fail to launch. The sinfuliphone repo also carries appsync. You mentioned having [Redacted], and you can usually get appsync form wherever you get [Redacted] (but they are two separate installations).

The newer MC model iPod Touch 2G has a newer bootrom that is not as easy to jailbreak. 4.1 is fine, but jailbreaking an iPod Touch 2G MC model on 4.2.1 can only be accomplished by using a tethered jailreak. The same goes for iPhone 4 (if you don't have particular SHSH blobs from beta firmware), iPod Touch 3G, etc. I am also leaving my iPod Touch 2G MC model on 4.1 until an untethered jailbreak is released for 4.2.1, which is recommended.

The problem is not keeping the apps, it's keeping the app save files. You have to do this manually via a computer program such as iPhoneBrowser. It's way too much trouble to do, and updating your 2g iPod to 4.1 will kill the battery life so it's not recommended.
