how do i know a phone got a custom rom installed?

got a second handed phone, i don't know if the previous user already modded it or something..
phone is s4 mini

Check the build info, and does the home menu in the s4 looks like a normal s4 or like the ones used on phones like Motorola

Does it boot with the Samsung logo too?

Does it has TouchWiz? If it does, it's probably on stock firmware.
If you don't know what TouchWiz is, go to Settings -> About Phone and check if there's a listing for CyanogenMod Version, or anything else out of place.

One way is to go into download mode and check if it's official or custom and if knox is tripped since the most common rooting methods will alter these (especially Knox which can't be restored).

If you're paranoid, you can grab the latest official ROM from sammobile and flash it using odin, just remember to wipe the data partition in recovery afterwards.

If it has a custom recovery it should have a custom android(who knows lol)

i got it on odin mode, and it says knox kernel mode lock 0x0
and everything says it's official, this means the knox was not tampered with, right?

i entered in download mode with odin, in recovery mod it looked standard

@Posghetti the phone doesn't want to be locked down, i press the lock key and the screen imediatly opens, i wanted to make sure it was not a custom rom issue, i already reseted the phone, i don't know what is causing the problem

@migles Trippy lol, if you wanted to, you could try to flash the stock rom onto to see if it makes a difference. It could be a hardware issue tho (like the power button for ex.)

@posguetti power button works fine.. i don't see the point of reflashing the stock, if it was never modified, i think it's hardware but i don't know what..
proximity sensor seems to work fine
