It actually takes a few tries to get into recovery. Well, worse case worse, you can either get a hard mod, or buy a new 3DS XL motherboard for around 50 something dollars.
n3ds is brick proof you cant brick it unless you use old 3ds update file if you send it to nintendo they gonna repair it but it gonna be on latest firmware which you cant hack without a hardmod
