So if region swapping breaks the eshop that would also effect the freeshop?

Region swapping does not affect the freeshop, but the exploit game for dsiwarehax needs to be legit. Otherwise, it won't transfer over.

How will you buy the exploit game without eshop access?

AFAIK you'd need your 3DS to be an old one to be able to use eShop after the region change. And even then, I'm not sure how System Transfer would work out.

Because they are not available in Australia and I really want one And a US import will cost about $450 total (brand new consoles are only about $230 here). And even if I imported one then I'd swap the plates with a blue so as not to complicate the system transfer, and end up with a US model that no one local is going to want to buy off me (I could a9lh it, pretend it's an Australian model and hope that whoever buys it isn't going to want to system transfer or do download play, but that feels wrong).

I will probably just wait until they've been around long enough that I can buy the housing kit from ebay. But there's still a flicker of hope that one day someone might want to trade the front and back plates for blue ones + money...

Region swap breaks eShop on the N3DS.

I have got eshop to work on region swaped n3ds but for the dsi downgrade i use an o3ds. Pretty sure i mentioned that in the post you quoted
