question: exist rechargable battlery like this ? a good solution if we use a battery like this.

I think it's either a 2032 or a 2025 lithium battery inside the ps4. afaik, there's no rechargeable version. it's meant to operate for a very long time. in fact, my hdmi splitter controllers use them, and I've never had to replace them.

^^ but with the same voltage... for sure we can do something to replace that battery for one little rechargable one... but of course we have to feed it from the board with the correct voltage... Think about guys ?

you'll have to ask @randy_w . I think he's changed the battery before. I haven't. I've just seen the inside of the board, and I think it was a 2032 battery.

It's a CR2032 battery, just like those used in computer motherboards. I think there's a rechargeable version (LR2032 IIRC) that has the same dimension as CR2032, but you have to modify the RTC circuit to charge it (at least remove the diode). BTW the rechargeable version has far less capacity than CR2032, so it won't last very long when console is unplugged, so not a good mod IMO.

@randy_w or connect in parallel to it another wire from other pat of the board with the same voltage... ?
To charge the lithium battery? I think you can but still not sure if it's a good idea. LR2032's capacity is 40mAh, about 1/5 the capacity of CR2032. Also it has higher self discharge rate. IMO just replace the battery every 5 years and you are good. If you are so paranoid about the battery situation, put a CR2 lithium battery in it, that thing lasts at least 10-20 years.

^^ well, no paranoid, but neither i like this is happening with companies abussing now :(
a complete shame on sony because this.

I wasn't the bright one, I swapped my battery before dark mod. Every time I boot ps4 it's 1979, didn't even know know games wouldn't work because I used the golden hen payload as first option. All games launched, trophy's unlocking, only now I learned that's all goldenhen

Here's my summary about the whole CMOS time bomb issue:

First of all there are two sets of clock in PS4 system, one is RTC clock (also called kernel clock), the other one is system clock (shows on upper right corner on main menu). System clock is just an offset from the RTC clock, and the value you set in settings doesn't reflect on RTC clock but rather changes the offset of system clock from RTC clock.

So when PS4's RTC battery dies, RTC clock will be reset to 1970, and will cause 30391 error when you try to launch any game (PSN, retail disc and fpkg). Someone on twitter said 30391 error is caused by the trophy data installation process, which checks RTC time.

Now to fix this error, you need to replace the battery and sync time with PSN server (which requires you to sign into your PSN account on PS4), so you need to be on latest firmware. If you are on 5.05, you can use react ps plus payload to manually set RTC time (not sure if 5.05 even throws 30391 error at you). If you are on 6.72-7.55, there's no fix yet, but the error could be bypassed with goldhen or mira+todex (they have debug trophy feature which somehow bypasses the date check).

That's pretty much everything about CMOS time bomb. Correct me if I made any mistake. BTW I'd recommend changing CMOS battery on 6.72-7.55 systems every 5 years before they die (I made a post about it but it's really simple, just leave PSU plugged in when you change the battery).

This is similar to Unix clock stuff isn't it? AFAIK Unix clocks start on 1st Jan 1970 which equals 00:00:00. If so I wonder how things will be in 2038.

Yeah, PS4 system is built upon FreeBSD 9.0. For year 2038 problem I think it only affects early 32bit linux/unix systems, iirc modern 64bit systems use 64bit timestamp so I don't think ps4 is affected.

I read an article somewhere that sony was trying to fix things to where you didn't need to replace the cmos battery and log in. I don't know the specifics though. I think this is for both ps3 and ps4, so maybe a firmware update of some sort (if that's possible)?

That would be great if it's real, but doesn't sound like something sony would do.
