So around week ago, I messed around with the Luma 3DS, A9LH and Boot9Strap softwares. I was following this Russian guy's tutorial on it. It managed to soft brick my 3DS. My 3DS wouldn't turn on. Then, I followed another guy's tutorial to fixed the bricked 3DS. The A9LH screen would be the first thing I saw when I loaded my 3DS up, so I had to keep pressing start every time I turned it on, and wait another 3-5 mins to be loaded into the normal 3DS homescreen. I formatted the 3DS through System Settings. Now, I can turn my 3DS on. The problem is that I can't use it or turn it on without the SD Card. If I use it without the SD Card, it flashes blue three times and then it turns off. If I use it with the SD Card, it turns on and goes to the Home Screen. I instantly regret messing around with CFW and I really want to return to stock (normal nintendo) firmware. What can I do?? What should I do? I'm not sure. Please help. I have the old 3DS. My SD card only contains smealum homebrew starter kit and Luma3DS v9.1's boot.firm. I want to be able to start my 3DS without a SD Card or those files and be normal again. I want to format my SD Card and not have any CFW. I don't want a hacked 3DS.

Russian guy tutorial (softbricker):

You need to inject luma into ctrnand

there's a script in GM9 that does that, can't remember which one it's under because I intentionally have never injected luma into the ctrnand

I'm really confused as to what you just said... I'm new to this, so please use full names and not initials.

This is the type of screen I have for A9LH.

  1. Please do not rush this and please do not simply delete cfw. This could be really bad. Read this before deciding. https://gbatemp.net/threads/you-dont-need-to-remove-b9s-the-guide-to-proper-troubleshooting.477024/
  2. Never follow video tutorials. Most of them are bad and outdated.
  3. Explain a little more what is currently installed on your 3DS. AL9H or B9S?
  4. If your are already on B9S (boot9strap) all you have to do is the finalizing part of the guide. It will install Luma to your NAND with GodMode9 and the 3DS will boot with and without SD-card.

That's luma config in the video, not A9LH

and what I said earlier was GodMode9(GM9)

Sounds like b9s since the OP said that they have luma v9.1 boot.firm

Hopefully. She did not yet tell if the 9.1 is loaded or only on the SD-card. Messing around with random videos can lead to... whatever. Before deciding what is the best way to continue, @tgywal, please provide more information.
Hold "Select" while booting the 3DS to bring up the Luma configuration. What Luma version number is shown at the top screen?

It's only on the SD card. I haven't done anything yet. The finalising part guide is long. What are the main things I have to do?

Thanks a bunch for being helpful.

Again, before doing anything, you have to tell what is installed at the moment. You can’t do the finalizing setup if you have AL9H installed.
Hold the “Select” button while booting the 3DS. You should see the Luma configuration like in the video you linked to. On the very top of the upper screen is the Luma version number. What number do you have?

Luma3DS V9.1, like I said before...
Okay, just wanted to be sure it is used. You said before it was on the SD-card and only had homebrew starter kit besides it. I’m a bit paranoid in these things and want to be extra sure. If your 3DS would still have AL9H installed, the 9.1 boot.firm would not be used. You did not post a picture of the contents of your SD, so this was a precaution.
Admittedly I answered your first post very fast without thinking much about it – because if you had uninstalled cfw, your problems would most likely have become worse (and harder to fix).

The absolute minimum you have to do in order to get the 3DS boot without SD is:
  • Download the latest GodMode9 zip-package. Then unzip it and put the GodMode9.firm into SD:/Luma/Payloads and the folder gm9 into the root of your SD (SD:/)
Your SD-card should look something like that:
    Luma_and_GodMode.png

  • Do Section VI of the finalizing page.
It is still the best idea to follow the complete finalizing page step by step. The part with "Switch the hb. title to the current app" will fail, if you do not have boot.3dsx from here in the root of the SD. (Because you did not follow the guide from the beginning. The finalizing page assumes it to be there.)

1. This is completely unnecessary as you can't even use the console normally without an SD card present.
2. It's there as a fail safe in case you lose your SD card, and want to play a cartridge. It has no other use.
3. You have to update it each time you update Luma ( in cases like 11.7 to 11.8 if Luma 9.0 was in CTRNAND, you had no SD card but your console was updated you'd blackscreen)
4. You don't HAVE to use a script. It may steamline things, but pressing one button doesn't tell you what the console is doing, so you'd have no way to reverse it without coming back here.
5. All you have to do is copy Luma's "boot.firm" to 1:/rw/luma/ for it to boot without the SD card.

Again like I said, it's not a necessary step and I wish it were never added to the guide for reasons of this thread and above.

Where exactly is "1:/rw/luma/"?

Is it in the 3DS or SD Card?

It's the CTRNAND directory of the 3DS console only accessed with GM9.
So let me get this right, If I don't put luma inside and I lose the original SDcard with the boot.firm, buy another one and just put any boot.firm my 3ds would turn on just like before? All I need to turn on my 3ds back is a new SDcard?

You should put it inside because if the console's SD reader breaks your console will no longer function.

But if the SD reader breaks I'll only be able to use the camera and cartridges right? Well not even cartridges cause some of them needs updated info from SDcard. Isn't that right?

If the SD reader breaks and you put Luma in your CTR-NAND you can still play cartridges and DSiWare. If your SD reader breaks and you didn't put Luma in your CTR-NAND, all you'll have is a console that stays on a black screen and flashes the blue light when you try to turn it on.
