Has anyone done any hardware mods to their 3ds? I haven't seen any cool things with it like LED buttons, different outer shells etc etc. would be cool to also have a clear 3ds shell haha.

hm..I have an idea. I have 3ds (no XL).
I want to change only upper LCD XL.
So, is it possible?

Possible sure, probably even quite doable if you are versed in digital electronics and what goes there (we have apparently already had people decode the signals manually). Chances of it being a simple "buy a screen and fiddle with this connector" or even "buy a screen and do a bunch of straight soldering" on the other hand are somewhat smaller.

As for the OP... afraid I have not seen anything but I tend not to pay much attention to this until actual interesting things like audio replacements, comfort/remapping/game use mods for buttons and TV decoder type things start happening. I had considered trying my hand at it (as in do it and ultimately sell copies/parts/kits) but the 3ds library is terribly unappealing to me and in my experience the overlap of those that appreciate good engineering and those that play games is not the largest which tempers my ambition a bit.
