a general question for my edumacation... other than usb loader configuration folder and apps folder, does anything else on the SD card need to stay there once installed?

Yes the config folder should be there if you use wiixplorer or savegame manager gx. My suggestion is that you don't really need to delete anything so leave it that way.

you should keep the bootmii folder on your SD card, and probably a nand backup. Although neither are necessary to keep on the SD card, but if you decide not to them on your SD card then keep copies of those things on your PC in a safe place. If you use SNEEK then you will need those files on your SD card also.

You only need APPS folder, and the USB Loaders configuration folder+file. Bannerbomb, and any other files can be deleted, unless your "Hacking" more Wiis. Don't give up on this forum. You'll see that we are 34% duchebags, 36% crybabys, 12% noobs, and 18% percent helpful.

^EDIT: Yeah, you should keep a NAND backup either on your computer, or on your SD card. It'd be helpful to know what you installed, so we could tell you what to keep.
