Hacking Gunk stunk inside clear plastic (white NDS Lite)

Hey all,

I have a white NDS Lite.

For those with the black one, this isnt really an issue since its not as noticeable.

But for owners with the white one, notice how the clear plastic surrounds the white interior plastic of the DS.

When you open up the DS, you will notice that there is a very thin gap between the clear plastic and white plastic.

Inside this gap, I have some dirt and grim stuck in there. Anyone else have trouble with that? I cannot think of a way to get it out... it makes me DS look so dirty..

Any ideas?

I used to do a paper thing, where you slot a piece of strong paper into the gap and try to wedge all the dust out. The paper might break though, as the fit is very tight near the corners :X

Alternatively you may try to use a thin toothpick or something?

I don't think you can remove the plastic casing from the shell itself

Its hard to slide paper thru it. I've tried index cards, no luck..

If you take your DS Lite apart the plastic comes off of the bottom.
Don't know about the top though.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I don't like the white DS. Have you tried any of that compressed air in a can? You know, the kind used for blowing dust out of your PC keyboard?

Oh, and in your topic title it's kinda funny because it says the gunk "stunk" inside your NDS. So is it really that stinky?

Nice catch! Didn't notice I did that... it's 2AM already. I'm rather surprise at the number of responses I've gotten so far!

I guess thats the attention grabber.

I dont think compressed air would work. The stuff thats in there is gunky...not dusty... so its more or less STUCK to the plastic....

I have this problem but the discolouring of the L and R buttons i hate more. After owning mine for a year they are almost yellow. I wish i got a black one.

Yeah, I was gonna mention the yellowing of the shoulder buttons too. That sucks.

kentl901, maybe you should email Nintendo and ask them what they recommend for cleaning the gunk out of the NDS.

just use a piece of paper, it's what I did and it works great.
just cut up a few squares about 1/4 the size of your DSlite and slide them around in the edges.

works like a charm
