Hardware Graphics Card

I'm expecting a crappy Graphics card to come with the computer I'm getting at Christmas so i might invest in a new one. Now i know there is two different types of slots for Graphics Cards: PCI and AGP. I don't know what type i'll get.

I have a question:

What is the best Graphics card for a small price? i have a £50 budget.

I was searching and these look good:

CLUB3D RADEON HD 2400PRO (AGP)
Sapphire RADEON X1550 (AGP)
XFX nVidia GF 6200A (AGP)
ATI Powercolor HD2400Pro (PCI)


All the good cheap cards are AGP. I hope my new Pc will have a AGP slot.

you don't want AGP you want PCI Express

If you stretch your budget, you can get yourself a x1950 Pro for about 75quid

lol, AGP was made redundant ages ago
PCIe runs at 16X while AGP can only run at a maximum of 8x (something to do with data bandwith)

also, AGP are usually more expensive since PCI is the new standard and everyone has it (provided you have a moderately new computer)

i would suggest either the Radeon X1650XT or the geforce 7300GT
they are probably the best "bang for buck" cards in the lower region

No, PCI is worse than AGP. PCI Express is the new standard.

my personal favorite out of these lot would be the X1950 with the 7600GT coming a close second
if you are adamant about your budget then go for the 7600GS

you can get a decent PCI-e for 50 pounds. not great. but decent. like a x1650 pro. or 8500GT

The pc i'm getting is this

I heard that nearly all pre-built computer systems would have crappy Graphics Card and other components so i want to invest in a new card and more RAM to play PC games. i really want to play Portal and and Team Fortress 2.

secondly, im 99% sure that PCI(not express) graphics cards are produced anymore and im 100% sure that both those cards are not PCI.

seriously dude, if your motherboard has an AGP port in it return it immidiately
its not worth it, even the slightest.
AGP is slower and more expensive and as such is redundant

actually. not too be rude. but most people talking to you, including me, are hardcore gamers. were just trying to tell you the honest truth about agp and pci-E. it honestly is that much of a deal, AGP vs. pci-E. and i would return it if it was agp (i would actually find out before even buying it though). youre spending so much for a product, you better get exactly what you want. but lets not argue about it. just let us know what it is when you get it, then well help you on out on what video card to get.

yeaaaaah....anyways sounds like a good card.

in terms of specs its a fine card but if you look at how the cards in each series compare, the 8x00 series doesnt quite cut it.
the 7600gt is about half a 7900gt
whereas a 8600gts is only 1/4th a 8800gt

i hope they pull out the big guns for the 9x00 series other than blathering on about DX10 as an excuse for delivering underpowered cards.

the 8800gt is a real work of art though... *drool*

PCI_E has been good to me. I've been a fan of ATI for a while now and have used one in pretty much, yup, all of my builds. However, it looks like NVIDIA has some really nice cards out there now.
