Even after creating a backup you have to maintain the original copy or your backup becomes an unlawful copy.

If your going to go this far to being legit I hope you at least remember to hold onto your games too, wouldnt want you to go to jail at any moment.

Yeah I will keep the copy physically. That's pretty much the only way to prove you bought it. (You may also have to show the order or recite if they really demand it.) As long as you own a copy physically it's totally fine to have it on your PC. But if you sell it, and it's still on your PC that is piracy (Becuase your exploiting the system of value!!!)

Yeah I read that. But really over all it would not make a difference with the scenario I am using (Copying a game on my PC for emulation.) This is piracy, however since the USA has fair right laws for Piracy, it is actually okay to copy a game to your PC as long as you bought it, and you have ownership of that game physically. Granite it does not give you a lisence to permit you to copy, but getting punished is unlikely due to the fair right laws, and the law being in a greyish area of it being okay.

Not that it is 100% okay. As long as you don't give the game, or share it. It would be totally fine, same thing with owning the copy, and being honest about the act (or being low profile.) In the case the FBI does find you for piracy, the whole legitality precautions taken such as buying the game physically, and only using it for emulation, and you still own the physical copy not sharing it with anyone it would be okay to do so. Not that the US would be totally fine with it, it's just that proving, and taking extra steps towards being legit shows the FBI that your actually willing to buy the games, or content legit first.

Tbh I think these laws are sometimes a little over complex then they need to be when it comes from reading from the exact book of laws on piracy.

But again it's debatiable. I'm not saying it's perfectly okay to do it, but the chances of being arrested, or even punished, or called out are very low (So low in fact it's probably not even worth arguing about.)

Nobody freaking cares. Really. I downloaded the whole GB/GBC, NES and GBA ROMsets. Nobody cares about this, really, don't bother dumping.

Nintendo's not gonna send their ninja squad to your house, break down your door and drag you off to jail, at least, that's what I hear, but under US law and the DMCA, it is legal to make backups of media you own. Even then, still very much a grey area

A lot of people don't even care about ROM/ISO downloads lol.

You are aware that Nintendo now know you've done this and will probably be knocking on your door at some point with the FBI in tow. That's assuming that they turn up during daylight hours. You may just be woken up suddenly when they kick the door in at 3am at some random point in the future. Trouble is, you'll not know when they're coming. Probably best to turn yourself in to the authorities whilst you can

But your stealing the value of the game. It's like your getting a burito, but not paying for it at Del Taco, or El PoloLocol.

Sometimes I just wish these rules were simplified by %200000 of what it currently is.

Edit: @richy if in the case the FBI actually finds you pirating, and considering I am a 15 year old "man" unable to get a job, and maybe have to go to court owing, or issuing $1.5k (or something like that.) to the government which I do not have then I'm screwed.

I hacked my Wii becuase it was legal. The only thing that wouldn't be legal would be pirating games with other Mod's (Like getting "Free Wii Shop Channels") my old friend when we were like 8 - 9 modded his Wii, and pirated. Had this huge talk about piracy, why it's wrong, and faced a punishment from his parents pretty much. Pretty sure the same thing wouldn't occur to a student in Highschool (10th grade.) has already learned about Piracy.

Again it's all pretty much what you do with the content. I'm not trying to troll anyone, but the fact that crimes may be "accidentally" encountered I want to make sure I don't fuck up in the case that happens.

You are allowed to hack your Wii (Nintendo allows it.) But they try stopping it becuase "We did not think anyone would hack the Wii." So they can get more sales, or stop modding completely. The only time again it would ever be illegal to hack a Wii would be Piracy!

Tell me, how is Nintendo losing money for a game they do not sell? Even if you purchase a copy of the game, it's not Nintendo who sells it, since they haven't made those games in years.

Is it legal? Nope.

Does anybody (including Nintendo) care? Nope.

I think so. I was under the impression no person on Earth has been successfully arrested for, let alone prosecuted, sentenced, and actually served their sentence, for individual (not sharing with others) non-commercial (no monetary transaction) video game piracy.
