So, I've made it sorta a tradition to make a big blog post every 1,000 posts. Last time it was my retrospective on GBAtemp. This time it's a biography type of thing, explaining everything about me! My inner workings, how I think, and why I seem to hate Japan so much. I'll keep details to a minimal to stop the pedobears
I was born a poor black child. Not really. I was born in 1993 in Trenton, New Jersey, and named Harry (full name Harrison, official title Dr. Harry Ulysseus Ph.D III) after... someone in my family, I forget. I lived in Trenton until I was 7, I think, and then moved to where I am now (which I'll keep a mystery, but it's in New Jersey). If you didn't know, New Jersey is kinda a shit hole. Where I live is nice, but the state itself isn't exactly great. It's the most densely populated state in the US. Trenton is the capital and where I grew up, although I rarely went to a lot of places in Trenton. Trenton is an armpit of a city, plain and simple. Where I lived wasn't great. We had stuff stolen now and then, you could hear the boomboxes booming day in and day out, and according to looking at one of those "find how many sexual predators live near you" sites, it apparently had a lot of sexual deviants. How exciting! I was homeschooled the entire time, since Trenton schools are terrible and if I grew up in that, I'd probably be trying to get my crack fix or in a coffin by now. When the cash finally came, we moved to our quaint little house right now. I like where I live. It's not overly rural but it's got nice, open spaces. There's a small hub of a town nearby that's nice. Crime rate is low, the citizens are nice.
Anyway, around 2003, my parents got divorced. My dad came out of the closet and moved out. I remember he told me they were divorcing on, ironically, 9/11/2003. Out of all the dates, I never quite knew why they choose that one. I mean, it's a double whammy. "Hey, two years ago, thousands of people died in a terrorist attack on major landmarks. Oh yeah, and we're getting divorced." POW POW! Sucker punch! Anyway, he moved out probably a month later to a small apartment about 15 minutes away. I'd visit him on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and stay with him every other weekend. This wasn't any court ruled crap, my parents decided on it. Nowadays, six years later, they're on good terms. On Christmas and the like, we'll all sit down as a family and have breakfast. It's not all the awkward, either. Both my parents have someone new now, although my mom has been dating around quite a bit while my dad has been quite serious with his partner for a while now. He met him before I knew about the divorce, so it's been over 5 years for them. And they're still going.
A few weeks ago my dad moved away to New York. He originally wanted to wait until I went to college, which would be in two years, but he lost his job in April. After his severance package ran out, unemployment wasn't enough to pay for his apartment and the house I live in. So, he moved in with his partner in the Bronx and got a part time job. Nothing major money wise, but it gets him some cash on the side without negating unemployment benefits.
Well, that was just my life in a brief summary.
As for my views, I'm an pseudo-agnostic socialist. Agnostic is, for those of you who don't know, is basically being without religion but open to the concept. I'm not really open to being part of a religion, since that's just not my bag baby, but I don't like being called an atheist. Atheism to me immediately relates to the douchebags who say "TAKE 'UNDER GOD' OUT OF THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE!" I don't give two shits. I don't even say the Pledge when I'm in school. No one does. It's just an annoying interruption to conversation. Even then, do you have to rain on EVERYONE'S parade? Sure, there should be a separation of church and state, but nitpicking on things that don't matter is just plain dumb. Get a life and stop masturbating to Thomas Jefferson or something. Anyway, I think religion does cause a lot of the world's problems, but it has many concepts that should apply to life. Religion should just be regulated, not eliminated. I say I'm a socialist because I get sick of capitalism failing time after time. We always say that the ebb and flow of markets is "just natural". Everything that's a problem with a flawed economy is "just natural". Well, it's not. The Great Depression needed unnatural means (The New Deal) to dig us out of it. Our current depression is in need of a stimulus package. If it was "just natural", we'd be out of this depression right now. Then you've got the plain broken crap like Reaganomics. Wealth doesn't trickle down. Philanthropy doesn't happen much. Sure, it happens with the higher class people who want to help their community, but when you get to the deluxe, supersized class, the only thing they want is more money. All for them. They don't even need it, they just want to hoard it all. People are bad, plain and simple. Socialism is the closest thing you can get to having a world without money. A world without money, built on mutual trust and rules, would be better. Socialism just makes sure everyone gets an equal playing field, economically. Don't pull that Harrison Bergeron crap on me with "Oh socialism will try to make everything equal!" because it won't. It's meant to eliminate everyone's financial panics and secure "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness", which is the goal of governments.
I don't hate Japan. That's a misconception. I just hate anime. I don't see any appeal in it. Anime just plays off some unknown hunger people have for Japanese crap and combines with with flashy explosions and over the top explosions. Most of the character and story development is minimum. Everything seems to just be a precursor to trying to get more people beat up. Being a dude myself, I like see someone get beat up as much as the next guy, but I like it to at least be plausible. Rambo isn't plausible at all but it's realistic. He isn't flying around shooting lasers, he's just super ripped and running around shooting the Vietcong. Sure, he never runs out of ammo, the baddies have terrible aim, and he just never gets a scratch even when a helicopter crashes, but it's better than watching guys fly around shooting lasers out of their hands. With anime, it seems to be one guy just miraculously pulls out a super-awesome-finishing-move that doesn't even finish the other guy, who uses an even more awesome move, and the cycle goes on. That combined with just an overload of Japanese cultural references and that J-Pop drive me insane. It's just not my thing, guys. I'll highlight this so you can all try... I'm open to anime. If you find me an anime that has not too much action (but some action), lots of story and character development, and is realistic and gritty, tell me. I wouldn't mind at least saying I like a single anime.
I've been a pretty devout Nintendo gamer over the years. My first gaming console was a Playstation that one of my brother's friends gave us since he bought a Playstation 2. I don't own many games for it, let alone good ones, but it started my gaming career. I then got a Gamecube when we had the cash. I, again, didn't have a lot of good games, but I had a few. My brother got an Xbox which I now have since he has a 360. The only games I played on it were Halo 2, Battlefront II, and KOTOR. All of them are awesome. By this generation, with my Wii, I started becoming quite the game enthusiast. All my purchased Wii games are quite good, actually. SSBB, Mario Kart, No More Heroes, The Conduit, so on and so forth. Then I learned about pirating games. My friend told me about flashcarts and I got one within a week, a R4 which I still use today. R4's may be the bitch of flashcarts, but it's a damn fine clunker. It may not be fancy by any means, but it'll still run any game thrown at it, just in a little time. I later moved on to Wii pirating. I have yet to get a HDD, but I do love my DVD loaders. There's no genre that specifically is my favorite. The only things I don't like are fighting games, outside of things like Smash Bros. Racing isn't my favorite, but I've been getting used to it as of late. I'm not a big fan of sports games either, although I have been looking into more soccer video games after I tried FIFA 10 on my DS off a whim and loved it to death. I like 3-D platformers a lot, as well as RPGs and some older school stuff.
The one thing that really grinds my gears is blindness. Blindness from just fanboyism. Time after time here I see people who will blindly following any turd produced by this or that purely because it got rubber stamped with a name. People should try to set all prejudices aside when playing a game. They should alienate themselves from the game entirely, and not look at is as a game with this or that in it, but a game. It's hard to explain, but views should be unbiased.
My hobbies include video gaming and writing, mainly. I love writing reviews the most. I just loving getting into the nuts and bolts of a game's mechanics and analyzing it in-depth, without having my cock sucked by the head (excuse the pun) honchos at Big Game Company. That's what happens to many a review site. I'm actually a guy without many hobbies. I don't do anything interesting. I go to school, go home, go here, play video games, do homework, eat, and sleep. No exciting hobbies like knife throwing or ballet here.
