Inspired by RAneo's thread, I'd like to hear recommendations of great megadrive/genesis games. The genesis emulator for the PSP seems to work a lot better than the SNES one so I'm playing Genesis at the moment. I'm loving reliving Another World at the moment, but have nearly finished it, so do you have any interesting and eclectic recommendations for me?

Cheers!

Gunstar Heroes
Sonics
X-mens
Shining force
comic zone
Pirates!
Phantasy Star

Probably some other good ones I can't think of right now.

I never had a genesis as a kid, but got a bit of a chance to play catch-up lately.

moonwalker - back when MJ wasn't such a psycho
alisia dragoon - side-scrolling dragon action
landstalker - isometric genesis zelda
shadow dancer - one of my favorite shinobi games. gotta love the dog!

gunstar is ok....but if you really want some shooter fun play alien soldier.

treasure basically decided that levels were for kids so each level is only about 3 screens long and then you're faced with an amazing boss battle.

I've no idea how many levels/bosses there are because i never completed it, but there are approximately loads and they get HARD.

...Here's my top 25 for the Genesis (series are grouped):

Sonic the Hedgehog (1,2,3&K)
Shining Force (1,2)
Gunstar Heroes
Phantasy Star (2,3,4)
Monster World (3,4)
Ristar
Aladdin
Beyond Oasis
Castlevania Bloodlines
Rocket Knight Adventures
Thunder Force (3,4)
Landstalker
Shinobi (2,3)
Crusader of Centy
Contra HardCorps
Comix Zone
MUSHA
Toejam & Earl
Ecco the Dolphin (1,2)
Streets of Rage (1,2,3)
Vectorman (1,2)
Dune
Alien Soldier
Dynamite Heady
The Misadventures of Flink

Sorry, but I never liked Herzog Zwei as much as Dune

Best game you've probably never played on the list is Monster World 4 - it was a Japan-only release, but has been fully translated into english, and is one of the best sidescroll action-RPGs out there.

Oh, and I'd acually recommend Gunstar above Alien Soldier, although they're both must-plays. I've beat AS almost a dozen times, and once the boss patterns are down in your head, it can get a little monotonous. I've beat GH more times than that, but the looser gameplay style keeps things more fun, plus there's the multiplayer...

Dynamite Heady! lol

And definately Shining Force, they were the best RPG games ever. Wait, were they RPGs? Whatever, they ruled.

Trouble Shooter is a cool 2-player shooter.
Battle Mania 2 (the Japan-only sequel to Trouble Shooter)
Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team
Mega Bomberman
Rock N' Roll Racing
Flashback
Twinkle Tale (Japanese shooter)
Earthworm Jim
Ghouls 'N Ghosts
Beggar Prince (RPG released this year)
