I'm using HydraIRC, I went to the GBATemp chat room page then I clicked "Connect through IRC client" but still nothing happens.

The problem you were having was that you attempted to connect using a restricted nickname for some reason.
I'm not quite sure exactly which restricted nickname you used, but it must have been either NickServ or ChanServ.
