Hacking Gateway 3DS and Retail Games

I have a 3DS on v4.5 that works with my Gateway 3DS. I already have my emuNAND on v9.2

If I want to play a retail game (that needs to be played on v9.0 for example), what do I have to do?
Go to Nintendo DS Profile Setting, Boot Gateway Mode, then take out my gateway card and insert the retail game?
Or maybe go to Nintendo DS Profile Setting, Boot Classic Mode, then take out gateway card and insert retail card?

classic mode, once in classic mode remove the red card and insert retail game
