awww man that sucks. The employees working were all pretty nice too so it was an overall good experience
I don't deal with Gamestop that often and I've never been in a tourament before, but here was the basic rundown.
I was told to arrive at 9. Things would get started at 9:30 and the official tournament would begin at 10, and we'd all be able to leave with our games at midnight.
I arrived at 9. Two minutes later, I was told the store was closing and that I had to wait outside, in the freezing cold, till 9:30 at which time they would check the roster. Anyone who wasn't there when their names were called were cut out, no questions. Said said that the tourament would begin at 10.
9:30 comes. They take initals, tel everyone to line up against the glass (though, lining up seemed to have no real purpose). At 9:55, they started to setup the tourament. We watched from outside as they reset the Wii four times because they had no idea what they were doing. Around 10:30, they finally started the tourament, but would only allow the two contending fighters in the store at once- leaving everyone else outside in the cold.. All spectators had to watch from outside when the Wii setup in the store was way in the back, barely allowing anyone to see.
This went on until Midnight at which point they counted down to the very last second before selling Brawl and they'd only allow one person in the store at a time.
I'm not sure what gamestop's policy is on the matter, but I really felt that we should have been let inside- or given numbers. We were told to line up numerous times, but were never taken in order of being lined up. While cheering outside the store for contestants inside, we were told to shut up and stand in a line. If it were not for the cool people there I met, I would have left.
I can understand if the store has some important rules regarding such things, but the employees didn't have to be the jerks they were about it. They did all but directly point and laught at us as we waited outside. Myself, and several parents that were there have intentions on reporting the matter.
Overall, the customers were awesome, the employees were pricks.
