Game Boy Advance Title for 3DS Virtual Console

Well, just out of curiosity: you know of any valid way on how to host said "online matches".

I looked for a way and there was no.... no community (talking only about this game, if you know a way feel free to pm me about it, I'd surely be interested).

Standard console emulators and GBA multiplayer emulators work on a different principle; the former of the two just has to be a cut down VNC where the other has to actually emulate networking (albeit the fairly simplistic serial protocol of the GBA). Still VBA-link ( http://www.vbalink.info/ and http://vbalink.wz.cz/ , have a look at both sites) was a fork of VBA that added link support, I believe the fork there also made it back into the VBA-m project which sought to unite all the useful forks back into on version.
Piping that serial protocol over a network was possible as well although I have not tried it in years (single PC with multiple monitors and/or VNC and all) and I am not aware of anybody making a nice xlink kai style frontend but nothing should be too drastic if you have a basic knowledge of port forwarding or VPN.

Although the information required to do anything has long since been lost there was another fork called VBA-link-real that attempted to allow link cable play between a real GBA and a PC.

I think the 3DS doesn't emulate GBA, but runs natively. Some temper told me this theory and I found this quiet plausible:

- When you open a gba title the "Nintendo 3DS" logo doesn't appear like in the NES, GB, GBC and GG emulators, but opens directly like the DS/DSi titles (it indicates that it doesn't run in 3DS mode)
- When you are running a GBA title you can't go back to the home menu, just like the DS/DSi titles
- When you are running a GBA title, closing the lid doesn't make the game pause like the DS/DSi titles (indicating a GBA mode)

If that's true, making use of online game or adding new features to gba games may be difficult or even impossible. You can see that they couldn't even add a sleep mode in gba games...

EDIT: Actually in the DS/DSi mode the game need to be coded to stop when the lid is closed and gba games obviously aren't coded to do so, so my third point may have a little flaw, but I find hard to believe gba games run in DS/DSi mode
