Hi,

I did something awful...i downgraded a new Wii from 4.0E to 3.2E with Wanins cIOS Downgrader 1.2.
Well, on my old wii with boot2v2 it worked fine....but the new Wii won't turn on anymore and I haven't installed Preloader installed, yet. Just the green light comes up....thats it.
I dont think there is anything to do, or is there something to rescue the Wii?

So stupid...everything worked fine on 4.0E, but nooooooo...I had to downgrade.

The choices we make, not the chances we take, determine our destiny

you can reflash your nand by desolder it, blaha blaha and resolder it. good luck

(and im serious, i would love to pay shipping if i can have it)

EDIT: on second thought, got the keys?

I'll try to give it back. It's new and damaged....

If they won't take it back or exchange it, I don't know what to do with it. Perhaps keeping parts of it for my other Wii.

What would you do with it?

PS: No, I don't have the keys. How?

Just say you tried updating to 4.2 and it froze and you kept in on for like 2 hours and then pulled the plug or something.

Worked for some people on this board.

Sorry to hear that man, hopefully you'll be me careful in the future.

I don't blame you for trying to exchange it but I hope no one else ends up with a broken Wii if you do.

Thanks, I thought about the update-thing, too. I'll optimize my story the next days....

I'll try to give it back saying it's damaged. So the store won't sell it again.

Well, Belgium isn't too far away from here, but it's pointless without keys...
Are they stored at a "fixed place", so that one can read them without having the Wii working?

Doesn't sound too good...I think that more people would have done that with their bricks, if it's more or less "doable"

Well, I will post here, if I can exchange the Wii or get a new one from the store.

You don't need the keys to flash boot2, it's not encrypted with the per console key.
You just need a vunerable boot1, which depends on when the wii was bought.

You can recover the keys once boot2 is running, but you could just use cboot2 to run wad manager and install the system menu IOS.

Desoldering the NAND, flashing and resoldering is alot of effort though.

ye i learned about that after the post. im guessing it uses common lol

also, i doubt reinstalling ios30 will fix it (3.2 uses ios30 afaik, which is now stubbed)

Send it in to Nintendo.
Don't worry, they can't fix it either, so no chance they'll see you hacked it. They'll just replace it.

Well, I think they can simply read the NAND and see the contents...probably with some kind of debug device.
Nintendo would be stupid not to implement such an option.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
