Hello All,
I just installed a Wiikey v2. Did the 5 wire install. I work in a factory and solder circuitry all day. So i know the soldering work is good.

Seems to load the Wiikey 2 Update / Config Disc v1.2 - 'Asgard Core' - USA REGION fine, but
it won't run the Rescue Disc or any other backup.

Anyone brave enough to help me tackle this problem.

I got this wii on the day the console was released. If that helps. the DVD drive is GC2-DMS.

Hey dude.. i solder all day too.... just do yourself 1 favour and just do 1 final recheck..i know it's probably o.k. but ya never know..it's happened to me and i'm sure lots of others..do the recheck if you says it's fine after that..then..we can move on.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I don't mind rechecking if i have to, but since the Config disc booted, doesn't that mean that the install was successful?

OK I took my wii apart and double checked all the connections. They're all good.
I tested it with a multimeter. I turned my wii on and the red and blue LEDs flashed back and forth.

That should be signs of a good install....correct?

I went ahead an inserted Super Mario Galaxy [actual disc] and it loaded and played just fine.
I then tried the Update / Config Disc v1.2 - 'Asgard Core' - USA REGION disc and it worked just fine.

I then loaded a backup of a game NTSC region. and it will not read the disc....
I tried another backup of a different NTSC game. Same problem.. my wii could not read the disc

you might be a pro at soldering but you may suck at burning games,
I recommend sony dvd-r 4x-8x speed IMG Burn
DVD+R do work, but most wiis don't like them

Does it give you an error? Whats it say? What update is your Wii up to??

The brand of DVD doesn't really matter as you have already made a config/firmware DVD.

The only error it gives me is that it cannot read the disc.

It did read the config disc that i burned to DVD and i'm using the same brand to burn my wii backups, and these discs work perfectly on my xbox360 backups.

My wii firmware is 3.3u.

I'm going to try burning another backup (again) to see if it was my media.

Yeah, if it isn't giving a particular error could just be a dodgey burn.

What WiiBlaster said, use IMGBurn and also tick the test check box.

If you can install the HBC (zelda with twilight hack), try the same disc with a backup loader.

if possible, can you give the exact name of the torrent you downloaded... there were some "patched" backups floating around due to Waninkoko's leaked loader, and WiiGator's 0.1 loader...

I tried another burn, using IMGburn and still no success.
The only info i have left for my torrent is that it was called [Wii]Mario_Kart_Wii[NTSC][wiisos.com]

I have the homebrew channel installed. I'll try using the HBC software later today.

I downloaded that exact torrent and it burned fine. Burn it at half the maximum speed of your disk.

OK I totally redid my install. made the wires way shorter and made sure all the solder connections were good. here are the pics of the new install

The wiikey flashed red and blue like ususal,
inserted Super Mario Galaxy (original NTSC disc)...worked
inserted the Wiikey 2 Update / Config Disc v1.2 - 'Asgard Core' - USA REGION....worked

then tried to run a backup of Mario Kart wii [NTSC] still not working. I reburned it using IMGburn at 2x speed.

What else could I be doing wrong?

It reads the config disc that i burned with the same media as I burned the backup with.

try running your backup through the program geckos, see if you get any changes

Ok, I got Gecko OS 1.07b in the homebrew channel.
Put the Mario Kart Wii in.

and this is what i got..

then i ejected the disc and i got this message...

So it recognizes that it is mario kart! but i cannot get any further then this.

I'm no pro but i still believe it might have something to do with your media
But i can tell you this, if the wii is saying that, you defiantly have the Mod-chip installed correctly I would think so
other wise it wouldn't even say that.

here is an update.
I got Sony DVD-R (the only other kind they had was memorex) and re-burned. IMGburn 2x

downgraded my wiifirmware to 3.2u

my config/update disc that i burned still works.

I'm going to try burning a different backup, to see if it will work.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

I tried a different backup of another game... Wii Music. and folks, it works! Must have had a bad version or something! Thanks for all your wonderful help and advice!
