well guys i found a hole in the 4.2.0-9 E-shop
note you can only get this to happen once

was performed on a EUR 3DS

well when you purchase Super Mario Land 2: 6 golden coins
(currently on -20% off)
purchase and perform the download
when downloaded continue shopping
then scroll down to what other people purchased when they purchased the game
soon as you highlight the 3rd game down
BAM!
freeze
top screen 3D goes completely wierd
3D turns off
all lines go everywhere
console will not respond

(wish i had taken a picture)

after 30 seconds 3DS shuts off to the home menu and says that the e-shop had to be force closed
and nintendo is sorry for the error

can only be performed once per console as just viewing the what others downloaded and high lighting the apps will cause the freeze

friend performed on his EUR console 4.2.0-9 also
caused the same problem

just thought id report :D

It's a scam to sell 6 golden coins

yea because i would clearly post a scam

its not a joke but this is possible worthwhile information in the right hands
would love to see neimod post the info on what goes on in the ram
seems like the 3DS OS picks up on it tho after scanning the ram and shuts it down

I was joking saying that Nintendo released a fake glitch to entice sales

well if people wanted to make anything of it for future i would say wait and dont purchase it as wont be able to cause an exploit if you do just to see the freeze
wouldn't of posted if it didnt occur twice

would be funny if we get a sudden 3DS update soon to fix e-shop stability

I would hope not, its bad enough having all the flashcart noobs posting "R4 y u no work?! Acekard y u error?! Dstwo...i play in two hours after update."
On topic, its very interesting how you found this, what on earth led you to do it? O.o

I can vouch for this happening on a US (CAN) 3DS. Though I can't remember exactly what prompted it, I'm sure it was around the time I bought Super Mario Land 2 at the discounted price. I managed to snag a picture I think, and I'll try and look for it.

EDIT: Here's the photo.

It happens on all current versions of the eShop. As the OP stated, it happens when highlighting the last game on the list of suggested titles, regardless of what you're downloading. The 3DS force-closes the software and recovers itself after a few seconds (and an automatic restart). Nothing to see here...

You also can do a glitch in Zelda: Link's Awakening DX to also force a software close and system restart.
It's 100% reproducible, and before a certain firmware update, would lock up the system entirely.
After the update, you get the forced close screen.

It wasn't a firmware update, it was an update for the game itself.
no?

It happened to me too. I purchased Freaky Forms today and then my 3ds just crashed just like you said. Also i got the same warning message as in the screenshot.
