Why do you have to make folders for games in the sd card? Any special reason? I usually leave the games on the root of the card.

Who said you have to make folders? I just use the root of the card for my DSTT.

I know some cards have a max amount of files it can display in a single directly. Like my cyclods can only show something like ~120 games in a single directory.

For organization.

Folder for system/firmware files
Folder for DS games
Folder for NES / GBC / SNES games
Folder for homebrew
Folder for music
Folder for movies
Folder for eBooks

Typically anything else is hidden.
Since your system/firmware folder is typically hidden, the average person (who uses folders) is left with about 4~6 folders each of them being organized into their category for easy browsing.

I only use mine for DS games, so I don't need a folder to keep things organized.
But you'll usually have a few other files that get mixed in.

It's also a lot easier to keep track of your games/saves.
