Not many games seem to get smartphone ports anymore. Ten years ago, platform-maxing was popular and many console games would release on phones. That seems to be happening less and less. Are they any industry voices explaining why, or is this a quiet shift?

I think the launch of Apple Arcade marked the start of this trend.

Yes I know Subnautica and Death Stranding are on iPad now, but that's incidental. Even Mina The Hollower skipped iPhone.

What do you all think?

Maybe because there are more ways to play PC games on phones nowadays? I have to admit though, I've been completely out of the loop for many years, I don't play mobile games/ports at all (unless you consider Vita ports of old mobile ports ).

Because emulation is getting so good really has been no reason to port anything for phones. I kind of believe if you can buy a $800 phone you can eventually buy a $500 power house and be happy. Just takes time. Although will admit if I ever buy a apple product it'll be to play with garage band it's still a pretty powerful DAW app. It's incredible that even Android can emulate PC games imo.
