FRAPS is pretty much the fastest you'll get for recording games on the same computer.

Yes, live video recording is slow. We all deal with it.

FRAPS is also $35 last I checked. Used Bandicam if you want similar stability as FRAPS but don't want to pay.

Bandicam puts a watermark ad on the video unless you pay, and it's $5 more.

Well, my sorry accuse for a processor (i3 vs i7 ) is playing only two games I got on it well.
So base on that, you should be alright.

Not sure if it is any use to you, but there an app called Lenovo YouCam, which allows recording of the desktop.

Is it any good?
Does it slow down the laptop more than fraps?

Haven't actually used it, so unfortunately you going to have to what 'till you get your laptop.

Fraps is by far the best option it is a common thing that recording does slow down gameplay no matter what especially in a laptop.

The watermark is better than most freeware; it's small font on the top-center of the video and not in the middle. Who wants to pay $35-40 for video capture software? No wonder piracy is an issue.
