Assuming it doesn't get pushed back, it'll come out on my birthday.

Excellent, but I wish they show how they're going to improve it over Oblivion.
They need to have earlier access to faster methods of travel, that is what I disliked about Oblivion above all else. That and I would like to hear voice acting instead of having to read so much text all the time. I could never get into those games for those reasons, having to read everything, not getting a very concrete questing point, better maps and faster travel methods between towns early on would be nice, like a mount.
did you even play the game O_o

as soon as you get out of the sewer you can do whatever you want, buy *cough*steal a horse and start visiting cities then you can fast travel to any location you have found using your map
pretty much every npc in the game has voice acting

I wasn't the biggest Oblivion fan, but hopefully they ditch some of the stupid shit, like the Oblivion level-up system, and scaled enemies/treasure.

If it's done with the Gamebyro engine though....I won't be getting it 'til it drops to 20$. Oblivion still to this day has over a thousand serious bugs, that they've done jack shit to fix. At least they're TRYING to fix New Vegas, even though they had no excuse to release it that buggy.

Oblivion really isn't that buggy, even without the unofficial Oblivion patch.

This sure took a long time, here's hoping it's not a MMORPG!
I'm so glad this has finally been announced, Oblivion is my favourite game out there, hands down, it's superb.

I doubt they'll be stupid enough to put this on the Gamebryo engine. With any luck it'll be on the id tech 5 engine, as id and bethesda are both owned by Zenimax Media.

also @geminisama, Bethesda didn't make New Vegas, Obsidian did. Obsidian are known for hilariously buggy games, but New Vegas is pretty much fixed at this point.

This is a GREAT birthday gift!!!!

Actually, as soon as you get out of the sewer and go to the next quest point, you GET a horse, you don't even have to steal it. and then, ditto to the rest!

Since it seems that Elder Scrolls IV and Fallout 3 ran practically identical engines I'm gonna say Fallout 3 was just generally better. Maybe I'm just more of an apocalypse nerd over a high medieval fiction nerd but I just felt Fallout 3 was more fun to play. ESIV wasn't bad though, it's still a game you can dump hundreds of hours into and still have plenty to do.

The moment you get out of the tutorial dungeon (the sewers), you have access to instant travelling via the map. Oblivion already has practically complete voice acting (along with Fallout 3 and NV that follow it). The questing has gotten more concrete in Oblivion (vs Morrowind). I don't know how you like the maps, but I found Oblivion's to be fairly nice (albeit buggy), and you can ride horses in the game (with varying breeds being different. There's also a hidden unicorn in the game, but a side quest requires you to kill it).

It seems like you've only seen Morrowind (and the few games before it). All of the improvements you're asking for have been already made in Oblivion.

Obsidian may have developed New Vegas, but Bethesda still published the game. They gave this game, with such glaringly obvious bugs, the OK to be released. Such bugs, that if any serious play testing went down, would have been noticed quickly; which they probably were, considering a patch with, "Over 200 bug fixes", was released within days.

Also, Obsidian may be known for buggy titles, (Alpha Protocol, NWN2), Bethesda is known for the same thing, (Oblivion, Fallout 3.) Am I naive enough to think that such an open-ended WRPG would be bug free, not at all; but a lot of the bugs present, and should now be fixed, were so easy to trigger and notice, they really have no excuse. It is both Obsidian, AND Bethesdas fault for releasing a glorified beta.

Bethesda's previous games weren't buggy. A lot of bugs in their recent games are due to the Gamebryo engine.

Hence my comment on how I wouldn't be touching TESV, until it was bargain bin priced, if it was Gamebryo. I don't know one game on that engine that isn't buggy, not even my beloved Civ 4. So I do know it's not all Obsidian/Bethesda, but they have no excuse for a lot of the major bugs plaguing the game, and were just fixed.

Oblivion didn't even have any bad bugs.....they were all either funny or useful....kinda like cheat codes in the ps1 n64 era .....besides you have to go out of the way for most of the glitches....
PS:I like the stupid physics

Claiming Oblivion didn't have any serious bugs, just because you never encountered them, is grossly ignorant. I didn't encounter anything big in New Vegas, but that doesn't mean it's not a complete mess, based on my good experience. :/

Edit: Yeah, the plethora of bugs I, among many others, encountered in Oblivion weren't silly rag-doll physics bugs.

Ehhh I haven't played in a long time but when I did I spent a few hundred hours (yea I really liked the game) there were some little things but I guess they didn't really bother me....
I guess what I should have said is that the glitches didn't take much away from the game (In my opinion)

But anyways Im sure TES V will be successful (pretty much everything Bethesda releases is successful)

The only problems I really had with Oblivion was the occasional Crash To Desktop. Which didn't bother me at all, because I quicksaved like every 10 seconds

Those CTD's are probably because I modded Oblivion a lot, which obviously didn't help the game's stability a lot.

And a lot of these bugs were fixed in the unofficial patch.
And that melting NPC bug I've been hearing about kinda freaks me out.

Well I'm glad to hear that it's not using Gamebryo. That's probably the reason why the announcement was made more than 4 years after Oblivion's release.
Although I have no idea why they continued to use Gamebryo all the way up until this year.

The unofficial patch, while a god send for some, doesn't apply to all those whom bought the vanilla game, or the bug fest GOTY copy on consoles. Seeing as Oblivion was a launch title, and it's still not fixed, despite the fans already figuring out the problems, it's just sad. Unless the creators of the unofficial patches were some attention whoring children, I don't see why Bethesda didn't try to work it out with them, and turn it into an official patch.

But yeah, I don't get why they used that terribad engine for so long either. XD
