I wouldn't say it's cancelled, just the studio went bust. Take 2 own the publishing rights for Duke Nukem Forever.

Wow nice find, but Im going to be honest here. For over a decades work, yeah the game looks cool but, it also kind of looks like an xbox 1 game. Hopefully it can be salvaged, improved and eventually released. I would love to give it a go.

Its not officially cancelled, Take Two own the rights to it so its them who can say if its cancelled or not.

Remember that Blood, Prey & Earth No More were all originally 3D Realms games but then were sold off to other developers to finish, so its not like its anything new to let soemone else finish their games.

DNF is still a big game, even after all this time and I'm sure Take Two would like to recoup something from it, even if it means letting a shitty cheap dev to quickly finish it. I personally hope that they get someone good to finish it as FPS games are getting dull for me and a character like Duke really does add to the genre.

Veteran development studio 3D Realms has gone bust due to a lack of funds available to sustain the business.

After being founded in 1987, the organisation gained fame and acclaim for producing the Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein 3D games.

The firm has been working on sequel Duke Nukem Forever for the past 12 years, which had become somewhat of a saga in the industry.

Take Two was slated to publish the game, but has now opted against providing any funding to sustain the project, despite retaining the rights.

The company's Alan Lewis said in a statement: "We can confirm that our relationship with 3D Realms for Duke Nukem Forever was a publishing arrangement, which did not include ongoing funds for development of the title."

Providing 3D Realm's only official comment on the situation, forum webmaster Joe Siegler said: "It's not a marketing thing. It's true. I have nothing further to say at this time."

However, Apogee Software and its publisher Deep Silver offered assurances that development of the Duke Nukem Trilogy for PSP and DS is not affected by the closure.

Take 2 only retain the right to publish the game should another software house decide to write it. The code will ramain the property of 3d Realms and their liquidators.
