I can't find sterlings whistle. I just landed using the starflight express and now I can't find Sterlings whistle!

If it's just the story line you have finished then don't worry, you get Sterlings Whistle after the story line by doing downloadable quests.

My only real gripe with DQIX was the item management, and what happened to you with the whistle also happened to me. You should look in the inventory of each of your party members. The game will place items in order of party members and whether or not their bags are full. It's probably on the person of one of your party members.
