Hello people,

i'm trying to use the IR blaster from the New 3DS to send signals to some DeskPets (basically remote controlled cars).

Now so many people said "IR is impossible", "It's too weak", "Too slow" etc. But i kinda wanna still try it and see whether IR works for the project i have on my hands. And the lack of sample projects and good documentation is starting to drive me nuts (or to the PSP)

Hence my question: Does anyone have a 3DS IR project flying around somewhere, even if it failed to fulfill it's purpose? If yes, may i ask to share it or have a look at the project?

I found this project, 3DS-Remote by @RedHat, which claims to record and blast IR signals. I hope it helps, it would be nice to see some/any infra-red homebrew for 3DS.

EDIT: Just confirming that this app "works", it reads IR signals while you hold the A button; I can receive signals from my TV remote and they display on the 3DS screen. The app is extremely unstable though and crashes after only a few seconds of use.

EDIT2: Actually, I believe I was misusing it, you're supposed to just press A, not hold it. That seems to be what was causing crashes, just pressing allows me to read IR signals for apparently as long as I want (my remote seems to find "Bitrate 7" agreeable. However, when I switch to sending mode, my TV doesn't respond to whatever the 3DS is sending back.

As far as i understand, the bitrate tells the 3DS how fast the IR signal has to be fired (or how fast it is coming in). The project is valuable, because that allows me to find out how i have to use the ir library. Luckily my project doesn't involve recording signals. Well it does, but my homebrew doesn't have to offer IR recording functionality unlike a universal remote.
