A Let's Play (often shortened to LP) is a walkthrough of a video game including a commentary, in which gamers will normally record themselves playing a video game from start to finish, and comment as they proceed. The trend began at the video gaming section of the Internet forums of the comedy website Something Awful in 2006. The player would take screenshots as they advanced through the games and annotate them, as if keeping a journal as they played, posting the final results on the forums. This original process is known as a "Screenshot LP", differentiating it from the "Video LP" form which later emerged, that involves recording "playthroughs" of games with a video capture device whilst offering an audio commentary uploading the result to a video-sharing website, the most popular being YouTube.
