Hacking DLC and Gateway

Hey, all...

Suppose I'm not interested in online play, I only want to buy DLC. Do I still need to rename the ROMs to .3dz? Or since it's just an interface for the eShop (I'm guessing here), it's cool to use the normal file without the modified header?

Unless things have changed dramatically, you don't need to.
