The only way I can see is we would have to verify the games on backward compatible Wii's, then remove the usb hard drive from it and plug it into the Wii U to play the games.

Actually I was thinking this solution a few days back.

The only downside of this is that people will be able to upload their verifiication file from their Wiis on the internet for those who do not own the games.

How would that work? Randomizer just said the verification file can't be copied. It becomes invalid.

I think he means if tueidj disabled the check for a specific Wii.
That'll be a cold day in hell. The day Tueidj disables AP/DRM measures in his program for the Wii or the Wii U is the day pigs fly and Nintendo allows hacks to be installed. And speaking of Devolution for the Wii U, he'll likely withhold from public release because he got butt-hurt at the backlash Devolution got on the Wii. Why? Because of the arguments regarding the AP measures.

The_randomizer, please stop posting your picture and video as reply outside of EoF.

I was merely posting my reaction to the ridiculousness of such a notion at Tueidj's expense (which I thought was innocuous), oh well.:shy:

And the crime here would be what exactly? It's not like the companies are losing any money from doing so.

Tueidj could open a donation poll if he wants in order to remove the AP measures or release the source code if he wanted to, personally I find Devo to have better potentials than DM(L) in terms of game compatibility and Wii U support, oh well it's not like it'll ever happen.

Back on topic, any news about DM 3.0?

Off course this is not a crime.I don't want to judge the ethics behind this decision.People is free to give, make presents and share whatever they like, even a used game or a verification file.
But this is something that Tueidj is opposed to according to his own merits and ethics.

I do not think he do the verification in a Wii, What would happen with WiiU owners who do not have a Wii?, I think he will do the verification extracting some WiiU's specific info in a file and verifying the discs with it in a PC's DVD drive.

i thought there were only a select few drives that could even read wii/gamecube games and i doubt people will want to search for and install one on their pc

There are ways to avoid the automatic read on most OS, additionally they would give up eventually.
But I think a wiiU version would probably use a usb dvd drive on the wiiU.

I certainly hope NOT.

It would be disastrous if Tueidj obliges us to buy something (like a USB drive) in order to use Devolution!

Don't hold your breath. He may be tenacious, but not stupid. If he were to do that, I'd download ISO images, load them on Dolphin and brag about it to his face.

The currently used DVV files for verification are tied both to the HDD or SD card AND the console used. He could use files tied specifically to the device but not to the console on a Wii U or family Wii that give some info about the console and then make another Wii able to use that information to then tie the games to the Wii U. With something like that it would be just as secure as it is now and the USB DVD could be used as an alternative.

...but we're really getting off topic here. There's another thread for this.

EDIT : I was going to add that doing the same thing on a PC would be less secure if you could just mount a disk image on a virtual drive or in a virtual machine but looking at what the_randomizer said above about dolphin, he'd have to make sure that adding the ability to do the verification of a second Wii wouldn't also be doable on dolphin since that would mean you could still do it just mounting the disk image.

I could be wrong but I believe any DVD ROM can read GC discs, the issue was that discs would seem "empty" because GC data is stored the other way around (game disks store data from the center of the disk and onwards while GC discs store them the other way to prevent piracy, of course back ups would store the data normally and the moded Wii/GC would still read the data) using Dolphin emulator I never seen any DVD ROM that doesn't run GC discs!
