I got a NEW 3DS XL with firmware version 10.6, downgraded it, installed a9lh and everything worked fine. Then I tried updated the sysNAND to the latest version via system settings and now it wont boot to Home Menu/Decrypt9/EmuNAND9.
I'm almost certain I checked the "Block FIRM partition updates" check box in the CFW.

Is there any way to get my 3DS to boot again without hard modding it? I have sysNAND backups of system version 9.2 with and without a9hl but hard modding should be the last resort.

goddammit. . . That was the last possibility for me to brick my 3ds. Good job me.

Does one of you know what's the best Hardmod guide for a NEW 3DS XL?

The only viable way to use updated sysnand is to make an emunand, update it, then switch the CTRNAND partition through the still 9.2 sysnand using anyhax and loading Decrypt9.
I don't think you full bricked, but recovery mode is inaccessible in a9lh however. At least in my experience.
You still have a arm9loaderhax.bin on your SD? Try downloading the AuReiNAND binary, put a empty file named updatedsysnand in the rei/aurei folder, making sure you see a firm90 file or similar in the folder as well.
If not working, hold L while booting.
If not, hold nothing.

"Activate the "Block FIRM partition updates" and "Disable Signature Checks" patches, then press Start to continue
(MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE BLOCK FIRM PARTITION UPDATES PATCH OR THE NEXT SYSTEM UPDATE WILL BRICK YOU) [...] Update your CFW SysNAND to the latest version using system settings" - Plailect's guide

Did I mísunderstand something?

Go on TroubleShooting guide of Plailect!

I tried that already, still not booting.

I have CakesFW, not AuReiNAND.

Whoa. When I put A9LH on my O3DS, I just updated it in system settings, and everything is fine.

I was planning on doing my N3DSXL on Monday, but this is making me question the wisdom of that. Seems like you did everything right and got a brick.
