My desktop resolution is 1920x1080 and when I trie to play a game (wich is configured in another (smaller) resolution the icons on my desktop are messed up.
Is their a way to prevent this from happenings (apart from changing the resolution ingame)?

Solution
There's a piece of software I've been using for a while now that allows you to save (and restore) your desktop icon layout. It acts as a shell extension and the options are present when you right-click the desktop. I'll link to it in the "Attached link" section.

I believe it works on XP, Vista, and 7, but I can only confirm that it works flawlessly on Vista, as that's what I'm currently running.

Most games offer a windowed mode. I actually prefer seeing what is running in the background (and being able to Alt-Tab out of the game without the resolution changing every time), and I have grown to hate fullscreen-only games.
