Gaming Desktop directory

I want to change my desktop directory to a different one because my local disk C has only a limited amount of space.I've searched around the internet but didn't find much except for putting only shortcuts on the desktop

In Windows XP (Sp3?) you can just cut and paste your desktop folder to a new location (i.e. move it, not copy and paste). After everything is moved, you might have to refresh your desktop -- Click on your desktop and press F5.

Perhaps this works with Vista.

Almost sounds TOO easy, eh? It works, I just tested it myself

the desktop folder is C:\Documents and Settings\Intel\Desktop

so all I gotta do is cut/paste this desktop folder to my desired directory or do I take the Intel folder also ?

EDIT : nevermind. cut / paste the desktop folder only

a little tip.

if you wan't to free up more space on C, and make your computer a little faster, try moving your page file to a different disk. if you have a spare header consider putting a small extra drive in specifically for it

whatsa page file ? and what header ?

my mom has tracking program i the C drive which takes up almost 15+ GB/20GB so I would really like to know.I've got some files here which I dunno whether they have anything to do with the program so maybe it might not be related to the program, so is there like a program which checks all the file that are related to the program ?

page file is what your computer uses as ram when it runs out of ram in laymen's terms, it is literally a file on your hard drive.

not sure how you move it... not on windows right now, but i think it is in control panel under "system"

Okay I found the paging thingy and changeed it to my extra HD.
what should I input for the values of minimum/maximum ?

By header did u mean an extra slot for another HD ?

well, the guideline is to set the minimum and maximum to 2 - 4 times how much ram you have. you set them the same so windows doesn't faff around resizing the file

and yes, that is what i meant by header.

I got X2 512MB DDR2 RAM so I guess altogether is 1024MB thus the min/max is 2048-4096 ??

You can also use Disk Cleanup to make some free space.
It got me an extra 4GB free space!

No, it only compresses your old files, deletes temporary content and stuff.
It doesn't delete anything you still need.

Do 2048, and yes. You don't need that much paging file. Set 2048 as the minimum and maximum - this will make sure they paging file's size will not change and get fragmented.
