the wii has done more for getting gaming into the mainstream than any other system since pong. anything that can get my parent gaming right along with me is a good thing.
cannot agree more. everyone at my school has one. especially girls

as for me, I have both a 360 and a Wii, and personally I have enjoyed my Wii more.

It is far too expensive if you consider buying everything it is a shame !
Price should drop as the NDS one's ... in 2008

The Wii is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SSBB soon... that'll be the one game that everyone who has ever played a nintendo game will want to play...

The Wii is hands down the best of the three systems out right now. I currently have a PS3 and a Wii. I had an XBOX 360. I never really liked the 360. I picked it up from a friend and played it occasionally. Unless you like playing online or are a FPS freak the 360 really doesnt have alot to offer. I ended up selling it for 20 dollars more than I payed for it. My PS3 right now is mainly a media center. I play one game and one game only Ratchet and Clank. Otherwise I use it for blueray movies and DVDs. Then there is my Wii. I have played 132 games for it and have enjoyed most of them. I love Wii sports as a quick pick up and play game. I have Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 & 2 both of which my friends, my wife and I play all the time. Mario Party 8 in a 50 round match while drinking beers cant be beat.

I have beat Mario Galaxy with all 242 stars. SSBB and Mario Kart Wii will be awesome. Other great games are Excitetruck, Zak and Wiki, Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, and too many others to name. People that think its a gimick to sell games have got to be joking. So what if the graphics arent up to the standards of PS3 and the Crapbox 360. Its fun, it introduces gaming to a whole other group of people. Hell my grandparents like playing smarty pants and wii sports with my wife and I and they are 65 and 61. The PS3 and the Xbox 360 are the same game with better graphics. I was sick and tired of another shooter game, another driving game with newer cars, another basketball game with updated players. Its old and tired and frankly crap.

Same can be said about the Wii except instead of graphics it's a new way to control the game. And in case you didn't know most of the Wii games are old ps2/gamecube ports so there goes the old/tired theory.

Nintendo promised that the Wii would be a Revolution, so do you think this revolution (as in, the Wii) beats the others?

Revolution my ass. Shake the wiimote instead of pressing a button is not a revolution. Few games make use of the motion sensing and do it well at the same time. lacklustre games, few quality titles, immense shovelware approved by nintendo, still weak third party quality support, only two notable nintendo titles for 2008 and you have yourself a big disappointment

QFT. The Wii needs games that take advantage of it's great potential. Until then, it's horrible online, terrible games (Horsez?), weak graphics, and high price when taking into account it's technology (Gamecube with a light gun attachment, ever played House of the Dead in an arcade?).

Of course you'd get Nintendo fan(boys/girls) on GBATemp...I admit that I really prefer Nintendo over the other companies, but I'm not so stupid and blind as to praise the Wii when in reality it's subpar.

The Wii is deadset average only a few good games. Mario Galaxy and Mario Strikers are the only titles I have liked so far.
Mario Strikers is a damn good example of what should be great about the Wii.

I love it. There are not many games that make use of the wiimote yet, but just by playing around with some of the glovepie scripts, I realized just how revolutionary this thing really is.

Just look at some of the projects Johnny Lee has done http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/
(The 3-D head tracking one is the best)

To me the Wii brought back what gaming is, and thats having fun. Compared to the PS3 in this household, the PS3 is just a media center, but the Wii is where gaming is for us. The games are fun and enjoyable, they might not score the highest, they might not be AAA quality titles, but they're pretty fun, and to me thats what counts when it comes to playing games. Games todays imo are just too serious.

I had a Wii at launch, beat Zelda then sold it on for a profit while they were still scarce. Best decision I could've made as theres absolutely nothing bar Mario and Metroid that interests me. In fact I don't buy this 'it's for the whole family' bs either... it's aimed at children, with the odd splash of Resi for the curious adult.
I don't like:

- 99% shovelware on my system
- inferior controls on inferior ports
- hardly any incentive for third party devs to create anything except party/mini/brain/shovelware games (only Nintendo wins)
- friend code crap
- waving my arms around like a mad man

See I consider myself a pretty hardcore gamer, and a system with no games is obviously going to be no use to me. I can't see it changing much in the future either, and until it does I will remain Wii free.

Right now for me it's 360 > PS3 > Wii. Wii and PS3 used to be the other way round but like I said, Wii has 3 games that I'd like to play, and I already finished one of them.

voted middle ground

i queued up for it on release day and loved the thing for about 3 months. Then i moved house and i haven't used it since, in fact it's still in the box.

The games released have been disappointing.

This exactly.

Nintendo are riding on the hype at the moment and Wii Sports is still the best game that makes use of the motion controls IMO. Nintendo really need to pull their finger out and get some decent games out instead of all the mini-game bollocks and masses of shovelware. Galaxy was a good effort but it's just not enough, especially when it barely uses the Wii remote to its full functionality.
There are some good games out there, the problem is none of them are getting any publicity. Not every good game can afford it's own flavor of Mountain Dew

Besides Galaxy and Wii Sports, I recommend:

Zack and Wiki
(Excellent point and click type puzzle that received high reviews across the board)

Metroid Prime 3
(FPS with controls that rival mouse and keyboard. Also has stellar reviews)

Medal of Honor Heroes 2
(Controls that surpass even Metroid Prime 3. Online multiplayer supports 32 players)

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
(Excellent on-rails shooter, just like at the arcade)

Battalion Wars 2
(An action version of Advance Wars)

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
(Great strategy RPG)

Super Paper Mario
(Speaks for itself. Some RPG elements were taken away, now it's more of a platformer)

I say that there's some amazing games under developement that haven't had wind caught on.

A friend of mine said he got a UFC game on the wii and that it's some kind of amazing. But... I never heard about it even around Wiichat.com, the biggest wii forum.

So if it isn't going to get publicity there, it isn't going to get it at all.

And maybe a developer thought, "Hey. If I get a head-start on making a super awesome game, I'll rack in the money 2 years from now while the other guys fought for the shovel-ware money when it released."

But I say it's a great little piece of machinery even though it's underpowered.

also +

Excite Truck
Twilight Princess
Resident Evil 4

I have a wii but have not got a working modchip installed so I essentially have a wii as my front room gamecube.
Anyhow so far this "console generation" has provided a few hours of fun and then made me remember why I learned to build PCs all those years ago.

Also thanks for the link sinkhead it made me chuckle.

Edit: actually I decided I now hate you sinkhead: that site has a big back catalogue which is going to waste more hours than the time I went to milton keynes in an attempt to look for something to do.
