not if you want to use the gateway bluecard. (unless you use flashcard timewarp, but .cia's is taking it to the next level... dangerous stuff.)

Woah Woah Woah guys don't confuse the man he can still use the gateway card and if he needs to use the bluecard there are CIA's for that, keep things simple.

I am in the similar predicament with little experience.
I have a 3dsXL with version 7.1.0-15e and I'm wondering on how to proceed.
I know that it's better to get the gateway card but after that should I downgrade to 4.5 for the easy entry point or upgrade to 9.2 for extra features that comes with that version?
And also as I understand there are two cards in the gateway package?
One is for DS games and other for 3ds and you can only use the DS one with 4.5 version?

I would stay at 9.2 simply because the browser entry point lets you use the gateway card while not breaking saves. If you want to use blue card for DS games you can install a CIA called flashcardtimewarp.cia

Thanks again for the help I am going to go legit with this 3ds it seems too much hassle my 6 year old just wants to pick it up and play it and go on the store and not worry about being banned etc but if I get myself one at some point I know what to do so I don't have to duplicate the same games thanks again

Sorry guys but you are way overdoing it with your Gateway love -.-V

Why the hell would anyone who is right with his mind tell someone to buy a Gateway for a 6 years old Girl ?

" It has Homebrew "
srew that, there is not much Homebrew + a 6 years old wouldn't be searching the internet for Homebrew anyways and even if, I doubt she will be able to use them ...

" It has emunand "
yeah wonderfull, you wouldn't need that with sky3ds plus if she goes back into sysnand I am pretty sure she won't be able to go to emunand herself which might lead into a system update which renders the Gateway unusuable ...

" ... "
yeah go on ... just think "could I actually have done it when I was 6 years old?"
I actually believe even pressing that stupid button on the Sky might have been a "hard" task for me when I was a kid especially when there are more than maybe 4 Games and I would have to wait ... and wait .... and wait ... ^^V

I am in no way saying the Gateway is bad and neither am I saying that Sky3ds is the best solution BUT for a little kit it is ....

My friend was about 5 or 6 when I suggested his mom get him a gateway, and she did, and I taught him how to use it, some of the more advanced features such as like downgrade I just said would break his ds so he would stay away from them, but he knows how emuNAND works, how to start the blue card and set up the MSET exploit. He knows he has to go to the ds profile settings, he knows about classic mode and emuNAND, and he knows about Gateway mode and Roms. I'd say he was pretty good. It took a while for him to learn how to get the exploit going at first, but now he is good.

I'd probably have to agree that the Gateway is going to be a bit complex, and possibly too much for a 6 year old. I don't have a lot of experience with kids, and every kid is different on what they will and won't understand, of course, but there's definitely a steep learning curve involved with the Gateway. I have a computer science degree and I still took a couple days doing research and gathering information before I did any downgrading and setting up emuNand and everything. I haven't used a Sky3DS, but from what I've seen on here, it seems like the much simpler solution of the two.
