MFE with H264 inside AVI & MKV container support.
480p/pal60 support.
is 720p possible?
Anyway the sd without sdhc is only 2gb.
But a readable DVD-RW data disc with a 720p MKV ripp inside would maybe work

embeded subs and external subs support.
Wiimote support to make it feel more like a media center.

That is just suggestions.

Sigh... just Google a tutorial on how to make channels.

An ELF to DOL tutorial is available and AutoInjectuwad supports injecting DOL files into a WAD.

As far as banners are concerned, again, Google is your friend.

But why would you even want channels? Having more homebrew on the SD card is more flexible and puts less wear on the NAND.

I know how to make a channel but I haven't got my Wii at home so, I can't test if it works. I also think that banners like PaRaDoX ones are clean and can have a best support because they are used by a lot of people.

If you know what is the homebrew manager, you should understand that channels usage is no so hard than you says and, even if it's a little longer to install, it's nicest and don't requires to launch the homebrew channel or Twilight Hack every time we want's to play to an emulator.
