Hey! Noob here.

I am in the process of installing cfw on two o3ds's, one already on CFW, and one on 11.1 (I have freakyhax).

I am following the plailect guide and stuck at the system transfer stage to downgrade the 11.1 3ds as the countries do not match.

The source 3ds (with CFW) has an NNID (only purchase being Fieldrunner and Steel Diver) set to Canada, while the target 3ds had an NNID (system formatted now) set to US.

I cannot change the country of the target 3ds without software updating, which would invalidate the freakyhax. Changing the country in the proflie settings without updating to 11.2 won't work as it requires me to access the eshop to confirm, which requires an update. Creating a new NNID wont work either, as it will only accept US.

I am thinking to delete the NNID (through the settings) on the source 3ds and then changing the country to US, then creating a new NNID set to US and repurchasing the two required game downloads. THEN, I can continue with the system transfer.

Does that sound right to you guys? Or is there a better way?

Have you tried using ctr-httpwn to bypass the update check?
Yeah, the ctr-httpwn to bypass the update check is no problem, but the region is. As I found out, even though both run the U version, the profile setting of Canada / USA makes it incompatible for system transfer.

I mean in reference to this:

Have you tried to use ctr-httpwn in order to bypass the update check so that you could change the region.

Also Freakyhax works on 11.2 (with the 11.1 payload) anyhow.

Yes! This worked! With ctr-httpwn i was able to bypass the update check in the eshop, allowing me to change the country :)

I didn't realize it would work for more than the system transfer step...good thinking!

Thanks!!
