Hacking Can't flash B9S - E/A Error

Hi folks,

i just followed the tutorial from the 3ds.hacks guide until the point where I need to flash the modified nand flash to my system (European New 3DS XL/LL with 11.50E).

I installed the hardmod which worked fine, dumped the NAND which also worked fine, checked the md5 hash, looked fine, modified the nand with the hardmod b9s installer - worked fine too.

But as soon as I want to write the hacked NAND file using Win32DiskImager, I immediatly get an Error 1117 with something like E/A error. I use the Anker USB3.0 Card reader which was is said to work fine.

I rebooted my 3DS and my PC, nothing worked. The console itself works fine as soon as I disconnect the Cardreader, so no brick or else. What am I doing wrong?

First off. Why exactly did you go the way of trying to hardmod your console?

The answer is simple - Because I am confused as hell. Many pages state different answers when it comes to 3DS modding. There are tons of tutorials for old and new firmwares with hardmods and flashcards and whatnot.

About 3 or 4 weeks ago, i was looking at the firmware and hacking table at the beginning of the tutorial. By that time, 11.8 wasn't out yet or not hackable at that time, so I followed the tutorial which led to the hardmod instructions. Then I ordered the anker USB adaptor, and forgot about it for 2 or 3 weeks. Today I finally decided to do it and just found out that you can use seeedminer with 11.80. That option wasn't there back when I decided to do the mod :/ so - I would just call it bad time luck.

Edit: But I'm not even mad, i can't buy a dsiware game anyway and besides that - I now have a NAND dump in case of major problems *shrug*

You cannot buy one cause ya dont have the funds? the game is free for whats needed.

I don't have an account and no way of paying, since you can only pay with credit card (at least in Germany) - and I don't have one. But if the game is free and all I need is just an account, I could obviously do that.

So - You recommend to scrap the hardmod idea and use seedminer instead, right? Do I need to update to 11.8 first or can I perform this mod with 11.5?

You would need 11.8 for steelhax+frogminer

It's not that bad either, worst part is probably trying to figure out which button to press in the japanese flipnote, but I looked at a video in italian(I am not fluent in neither japanese and italian nor do i understand them) and it worked out fine.

You may get a blueish-greenish screen like I did when installing b9s through frogminer, that just means it froze up, restart and try again

You can do the hardmod as an emergency later on, but soft mod would be your best bet

and yes, steelhax and frogminer is free for now until Nintendo finds out and paywalls the steelhax method

Phew. I did it.

I decided to update to 11.80 and try the seedminer method, but I couldn't. After I created an Nintendo ID, I tried to download the free game.

I used this compatibility list https://3ds.hacks.guide/de_DE/installing-boot9strap-(dsiware-game-injection-list) to search for any games - But well, the only free game is a japanese one which I couldn't get, probably due to region lock (I got an error after scanning the QR code that the title can't be downloaded). Then I asked a friend of mine if I can borrow his credit card without having to buy a 10Eur Eshop card in order to buy a 1,99 title - Which wasn't possible either. Doesn't matter which game I tried to buy, I always got an error message that I couldn't buy anything right now.

After struggling for a few hours, I decided to go back to the hardmod attempt. I tried different PCs which also took a while since some PCs had the same problem as mine and some didn't even recognized that a SD card was inserted. But finally my surface tablet was willing to help me. I dumped the nand and hacked it again (since I updated the firmware), and flashing worked flawlessly this time.

The console works, Luma3DS works fine and I'm now finalizing the setup.

Your name sounds german. Correct me if im wrong. But if the cfw had not installed I would have offered my help. If you came from the German area. I have a flashcard here with ntrboot. But since it works now ... hf with it.

Frogminer doesn't require purchasing any games, what you were trying to do was Seedminer
