The only thing I know that does that is removing the battery.

Yeah I was going to say that. Must be the battery reset that made it work? But still sd card slot could be an issue. Keep us posted on if it still works or freezes again.

Maybe when he smacked it the battery was put back into place.

The battery removal was my standard method of resetting the console. Holding the power button for 10sec every time it froze would drove me to madness. I will update you all in the morning.
