Homebrew Can i use online features at all?

So i have the homebrew channel and a few custom iOS’ installed on the vWii of my Wii U. JUST my vWii is hacked, however. There is mo CFW installed on the Wii U side of things and I don’t plan on installing any for the time being.

With that said, I still have my DNS settings to block updates from Nintendo just in case.

My question for today is: does this block ALL internet settings? Because I want to get super Mario maker at some point, but there’s no point if I can’t get online...
Don’t want my system to get nerfed by Nintendo though.

Most people are on the latest firmware, you only get banned for online cheating

Nobody has been banned on the Wii U for anything other than online cheating. Also, it should be noted that Wii U online play is likely to be shutdown within the next couple of years, so if you're banned, it wouldn't matter much.
