Hi Guys,

I'm about to grab a Wii U, I was actually thinking about the basic version 8gb, i'll be mainly playing in VWii mode, and off an external HDD. Or should i go for the 32gb version? I won't be keeping anything on the console itself except the savegames i think.. besides I like the white version ;) Thanks!

I'd say go with the white 8 GB version. You'll have to get another hard drive if you play a lot of Wii U games (the Wii U use it's own weird format), but it sounds like you won't be doing that. I wish the 32 GB were available in white.

Keep in mind if you do decide to use the Wii U as a Wii U, you'll need another hard drive in addition to the one you intend to use in vWii, as the Wii U requires you to use a proprietary format and will wipe out anything else on the drive when you set it up.

I'd go with the 32Gig system, even if you don't intend to use it now. Unless you're big on digital downloading games, it's not going to fill up super fast, so it's not a given that you'll absolutely need more space later if you go with the 32.

Whatever you do, remember not to plug in your Wii hard drive until after you're in vWii mode or the system will bitch at you and try to get you to format it for Wii U.

Right, my intention is to basically mod the vWii mode in order to play old Wii and GC titles from HDD, and play the WiiU titles from discs and I intend to keep it offline or block the updates. For now the only WiiU game I will have is Xenoblade Chronicles - will it force me to update my software to 5.5? Cheers!

yes , it will.
if you're on 5.4 or under, use wupinstaller to spoof to 5.5.1
then it'll let you play the game and stop nagging to update
