Hacking Buying a New 3DS XL...

I am buying a New 3DS XL this week and wondering about firmware versions. Are they all shipping with 10.3 and lower? Or are there any reports of systems being shipped with 10.4-10.6? I do not have Cubic Ninja, Super Smash Bros 3D or Ocarina of Time....

Yeah if you buy it new and not pre-owned, they should all be on firmware 10.3 or below.

Thanks, I didn't wanna have to fork out a bunch more money after buying this system, only reason I am buying the new 3DS is b/c I bricked one of my systems by accidentally downloading the wrong firmware.....

Most DS' even used ones ship with 10.2 - 10.3 or lower. I ordered 2 used new 3ds xl's in the last month and they were both on 10.2 and 9.8 (If I remember correctly). I updated them both though, because I wasnt into hacking the 3ds at that time. But luckily I bought OOT with my ds because its my all time favorite nintendo game next to pokemon so I was able to downgrade right when I wanted to.

I figure used ones will ship with higher firmware unless it belonged to someone that didn't play it much or ignored the update notices. I can also imagine Nintendo refurb units coming with 10.6 as well. I'm gonna be getting mine from Best Buy in the next couple of days.

I'm getting it from Best Buy's eBay store since I have about $125 Gift cards thanks to Perk TV & Swagbucks ....so if I gotta pay retail, its not a big deal since its not coming from out of pocket

Nice, I think ebay is running a 8x ebay bucks deal right now. Make sure to activate that in your ebay messages if you got it before making the purchase.

most people selling ds' on ebay now and days are shops like small time game stores that are selling online, so the system has been there for a while, or its coming from someone who hasnt used it in forever and thats why they are finally getting rid of it.
