The poor dog has had some mystery illnesses lately. Short bouts of the runs and vomiting and then he’s fine again. I discovered the cause the other day. My boy and the girl next door, who he spends a lot of time with, have been making potions behind the shed. The potions have consisted of water in a bucket that, over a period of a month or so, have had garden clippings, crisps, sweets and god only knows what else added to it until the whole thing is a putrefying mess. This concoction is then fed to the poor hapless dog who appears to be stupid enough to actually drink some of it. I thought Labradors were supposed to be smart, but I guess I was wrong. I found this out only because my lad shot out of the bath one night and still naked caring a small container of bath water shot out of the house and across the lawn to behind the shed. On inspection I found him tipping the contents into a reeking bucket of goo. I confronted him on the contents and finally got the story that it was a potion the he and his friend had been making in an attempt to turn the dog into a frog. I asked how he planned on turning the dog back to which he replied, "another potion of course." I kind of saw the funny side, and given he is only six I only scolded him a moderate amount. I let him know he could kill the poor mutt who had already had numerous case of Delhi belly. He promised not to do it again. Bloody kids!
